Description: As the original Bistro in Devizes (established 2003) we pride ourselves on being true to the original concept - that is a small, family run establishment (usually with a chef owner) providing a menu that often features slow cooked, seasonal dishes. The setting is traditional in that it is informal, relaxed and cosy. However, we are known for food that 'tickles the tastebuds', is influenced by a range of cuisines and always has The Bistro 'twist" to it. Open both at lunch time and in the evening, we have the distinction of also running a cookery school, now known as Vaughan's Cookery School and operating from another location in the town. Committed to sharing a passion for good food, Chef Peter Vaughan is a member of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and of the Slow Food Movement.

The food was excellent and attractively presented, we especially enjoyed the pintos starter. Foe mains we had the lamb, fish of the day and scallops and each of us were very happy with our choice. The main course was served with excellent potatos bravas. The service was friendly and efficient. The water carafe was topped up without asking. A delicious and comfortable meal.

The food here is un-real - maybe it is because the chef is part of the slow food movement and tries to source his produce locally - but everything tasted just that much better than London - oh and get the lamb whatever you do - melted like butter in the mouth.

Lunchtime on market day. Plenty of good food offers in Devizes, we chose The Bistro. We've been there before, once for lunch and once for Christmas Dinner (a themed "Trip to Jerusalem") and were impressed.
This time lunch was superb, with lots of choice even for a vegetarian, and plenty of information about the choices. Service was cheerful and at just the right speed. We had three courses and coffee for £16 each.
When you peer in the window it looks small, but there's plenty of space downstairs.
Very highly recommended.

That is what you get when you go to a restaurant run by a chef who is experimenting every night and with every dish he serves. I mad a suggestion that he add smoked salmon to an excellent asparagus and humus starter which really enhanced it, and before i could blink it was on the menu. That dish turned out to be really special. Other dishes did not work as well. He tried a fish with Mediterranean spices and garbanzo beans and it was just too spicy.

The chef/teacher is a real kick and he loves using the local produce. He is always experimenting and dabbling in the kitchen. Loves interfacing with the diners. He believes that you should dine with a large paryt because everyone's taste is different and they will have different reactions to each dish. Different palates.

His dessert was amazing , the main ingredient was frozen and shredded rhubarb.

What can I say we need "The Bistro" to come to Frome!
Amazing slow cooked pork with crispy chorizo, lamb meatballs with delicately spiced cauliflower and potatoes and not to mention the deserts.
I was lucky enough to taste the new dark chocolate desert before it was added to the menu and it was absolutely gorgeous, definitely recommend you go and try it!
Peter and his team are true foodies, just hearing them talk about future dishes it is clear they are truly obsessed with food, which makes for an amazing experience for us diners!
