Description: As the original Bistro in Devizes (established 2003) we pride ourselves on being true to the original concept - that is a small, family run establishment (usually with a chef owner) providing a menu that often features slow cooked, seasonal dishes. The setting is traditional in that it is informal, relaxed and cosy. However, we are known for food that 'tickles the tastebuds', is influenced by a range of cuisines and always has The Bistro 'twist" to it. Open both at lunch time and in the evening, we have the distinction of also running a cookery school, now known as Vaughan's Cookery School and operating from another location in the town. Committed to sharing a passion for good food, Chef Peter Vaughan is a member of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and of the Slow Food Movement.

My husband and I were on a long weekend in Wiltshire and with the help of Trip Advisor went to the Bistro. Being an American living in England I am always unusually elated when we find a great restaurant outside of London. This place makes the grade! I live 3 hours away and would absolutely drive there for a meal. Peter, the owner and chef is so passionate and abundant, we had a wonderful time just having his energy around us. The staff is knowledgeable and the service perfect. The food is eclectic in choice and excellent in quality. Always leave room for dessert as you will want more than one! To have such personal service you must sacrifice number of tables, definitely book so you are not disappointed.

This is the third restaurant we've eaten in in Devizes over the last couple of years (we're not locals) and far and away the best in terms of food, service and ambience. Peter, the owner, greets everybody and makes sure they're comfortable. The menu is small, but there are daily specials and the cooking and service are excellent. The breads are homemade. My wife has a lactose intolerance (so no cows milk) and when this was mentioned, alternatives were suggested and provided without any problem. Go on a quiet evening and Peter and the chef are happy to chat about cookery (and many other subjects). Unfortunately our visits to Devizes are now stopping - we shall miss the Bistro - at least until my wife goes back for one of the cookery schools that are run there.

Tucked away between Wine Street and the Market Place, is this unpreposessing little restaurant, with a small frontage that looks like a small tea shop. The menu is not extensive, but the food is excellent, even if the 'theme' is a bit uncertain - think Iberian with a west country twist. Our Scallops followed by slow roast Portuguese Pork was fantastic. All very unexpected, but very welcome.

This is a great place, really friendly, good seasonal food, veggie options, freshly made and deserves to be fully booked on a regular basis! Good value too and the menu is regularly updated so there is always something new to try.

I love this place, it's unlike anywhere else in terms of the food. We've eaten there many times and always recommend it to visitors. The chefs are so imaginative and the staff knowledgeable about the food. If you suffer from any allergies etc., just let them know and they will help you choose. Last time we went we couldn't decide on pudding as they all sounded so good, so Peter, the head chef, gave us a selection of lots. Superb. :)
They have a website with sample menus here: http://www.thebistrodevizes.co.uk/
