“Stunning new galleries, see them soon.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 October 2013

I was lucky today to get a preview of the galleries that open on Monday 14 October, but already featured today in The Times. Gold from the time of Stonehenge, but much more, including recreated dwellings, a video of Phil Harding (Time Team etc) raving about one of the many pieces now on display. A lot of child friendly elements, so suits all the family. New galleries enhance the many other exhibits tracing the 500,000 year history to current, with library, lectures etc. Museum now called Wiltshire Museum, in Devizes where there are lots of other attractions and facilities. Get there soon, before the world finds out.

“The best prehistory exhibit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 October 2013

If you are into prehistory and know about Wiltshire's past then you know there's going to be some good things to ogle at. The museum has just been completely redone with the biggest collection of pottery, lithics, and interactive features it's a great day out tho I do feel it's not really for small children.

I am pleased that you enjoyed your visit. When you came, the interactives for children hadn't been completed - so there will be much more for children to do!

I visited the Wiltshire Heritage Museum with my university course and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone with an interest in the local history, prehistory in particular. The new exhibit is really good!

“Maybe it will be better when it has been re-organised”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 September 2013

Visited In September when it was in the middle of re-organisation. It was free entry then. On that basis it was worth the visit, but if you had to pay one could be disappointed D&S 4/9

Thank you for your review. We will be opening our new galleries on 14 October - and we hope that you will come back to see us then! As you say, we have made the museum free at the moment as we do not have our full range of displays open at the moment, and have had to take a number of objects off display. We are an independent charity, not part of the local council, and so have to charge to preserve our nationally important collections for future generations.
