The entrance to the museum on a street in Devizes is unremarkable, but get inside and you find a treasure trove of antiquities, brilliantly and professionally presented. The themes as you go through the museum are clear and the display cases well lit, the objects clearly labelled and described. It really needs a whole day to see it all properly. The treasures they have acquired and the research in which they are involved with various universities and with English Heritage make this much more than a repository for objects but an active working source of investigation into our past. The links with the Archaeological Society and its members make it active history not dead and this shows through in the presentation of some very valuable treasures.

What has been done with the conversion of some old properties in the Town to convert them into a modern museum is excellent. It is on several floors with many staircases, but the trail through is clearly marked and there is a lift to make it accessible for everybody. On our visit there was also an organised children's visit and the activities they had put together for them looked enough fun to tempt one to pretend to be younger than one was! Plenty of interesting things for children to do, explore and try, even if it was a family visit. Boring? Definitely Not!

I will definitely be going back for another visit!

Some very interesting exhibits covering local hauls discovered in the vicinity including Bronze age gold. Local history relating to Devizes too which was interesting. Plenty of things for the younger ones to interact with including a range of dressing up clothes, grinding flour, sorting artefacts, etc. £5.50 (without gift aid) and £4.50 OAP so not too badly priced. The building is like a rabbit warren with every corner filled with display cabinets. I thoroughly enjoyed finding out about the history behind Avebury, Stonehenge and Woodhenge as well as the Kennet Long Barrow. Would recommend a visit prior to going to these other tourist attractions.

We had a day out and visited the museum.
This was nit a boring visit, it's a very interesting place, starting before Stonehenge, history and finds from Stonehenge going though the ages
There are some wonderful finds, including a necklace showing how the design would look with the beads and who might have worn it.
There are videos about the finds by Mike Harding from Timeteam
If you are interested in history this is definately a place to visit.
