After a good walk over Roundway Hill, we decided to stop in town for something to eat and chose Jack Spratt (or Upstairs at Jacks). The room looking over the Market Place was full so we sat in a room without a view. I believe the owners bought furniture in second hand stores in both France and the UK (and probably the cutlery too) but that, with the muted coloured walls, gives the place a warm, welcoming & homely feel.
We all chose sandwiches that can only be described a srumptious! The bread was fresh and doughy and the fillings deeply satisfying. I chose roasted veg with goats cheese - heavenly. The accompaning salad was crisp with a good combination of differing salad leaves, finely sliced cucumber and carrots, baby toms, ad a delicious dressing. We shared skinny fries and drank old fashioned lemonade!

Lunch was excellent. Service was prompt and friendly. I can see more lunchtimes to come!

“Good barista skills”
Reviewed 18 February 2012

We only popped in because of the illy signs on display (our favourite coffee) and we weren't disappointed. Our cappuccinos were top-notch, obviously made with a skilled hand and due care. Good barista skills seem hard to come by these days, so it made a spontaneous visit rather special. And at £2 per cup, great value too.

The place itself felt like an old house, and had a variety of table and chair styles to choose from, with two large seating areas and a 'cubby' at the top of stairs. It's old-fashioned, but quite nice with it.

“Excellent food, Good service, Awful coffee”
Reviewed 18 January 2012

Lovely place this - could just do with some more chairs/tables although they are limited by space. The service was a bit haphazard, everyone seemed to be running about not really knowing what was going on. But the food (we both had sandwiches with saled/fries) was excellent. Slightly let down by the coffee which was pretty avergae and served far too hot. People who run an eating establishment should know at what temperatute coffee should be made! We'll definitley go again - but steer clear of the coffee next time!

“Wonderful food and excellent service - Great TAPAS”
Reviewed 16 January 2012

My wife and I went to this lovely restaurant to celebrate our joint birthday. There were not many in but the atmosphere was was great. Sadly they were expecting a party of eight who failed to show. My son-in-law recommended this Tapas restaurant and as he is Mexican it had to be good and so it proved. Great views over the Market Place. Thanks to Michelle our server. We will certainly go back.

“What a fab little find!”
Reviewed 25 December 2011

Stopped off here just at the end of the lunch time session a few weeks ago. Staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. Ordered a roast pork roll which came with plenty Of pork, stuffing and apple sauce and delicious skinny fries. My partner had coronation chicken which was equally delicious too, both made with hobbs house bread. We both had coffee which was freshly ground. there is also a small selection of soft and alcoholic drinks.

Quirky antique decor with beaten up chairs and tables adds to the cute ambience of the place.

I believe this place does tapas in the evenings and is often Fully booked I do plan to go back and check it our!
