This is the best kind of country pub, and very well worth a detour. The host is gentle. thoughtful, diplomatic and cheerful, and he knows how to produce excellent food with original touches.
You would pay twice the winter price of £7.50 for a 2 course lunch at other places and £18 to £20 would be justified for the lovely food you have in this special winter price.. There is an excellent varied menu of serious eating beyond the £7.50 special lunches.
The locals are very funny (on purpose!) and assorted, and the restaurant is always full with the sort of experienced eaters who know good food, but avoid pretentious hotellishness.
The place is comfortable and epitomises the best of British.
Without asking, you get a carafe of chilled water on your table, it is that sort of caring eating house, owing a lot to the Continental origins of the landlord.
This, my fifth visit, lived up to all the others, and I would choose to eat here above anywhere for many miles around.
Certainly worth a visit from the Devizes or Pewsey areas, and an ideal break to any journey.
Not well enough known...yet.

We visited this pub on our recent holiday to Wiltshire after reading the various Tripadvisor reviews. So glad that we did the pub has a great feel with a good mix of locals and visitors and as soon as you step in you get a good feel about it with both the friendly welcome and the presentation and cleanliness.
There is a good choice of Ales behind the bar from the local Wadworth Brewery and i must admit i quite enjoyed the new stout which i think was called Corvus .Onto the food the menu is not vast which is often a good thing and although we arrived before the evening serving we were given a table and menus to choose from. There is also a specials board with more options which i went for trying the chicken breast stuffed with haggis whilst my better half went for the fish and chips which were both delicious also a nice touch was the bottled water delivered to your table pre meal without having to ask for it. Looking forward when in the area again to another visit.

We drove out of our way to visit this pub based on previous reviews and were disappointed with everything. The food was mediocre, the service was mediocre and the furnishings in the pub were tatty. Overall, we left feeling ripped off. This pub is listed twice as a restaurant on trip advisor.

Spent two nights on the caravan site behind the pub. Lovely quiet, great views, fantastic dog walks in fields behind pub. We had takeaway meals and these we very good, hand cut home made chips and 8oz burger £9-75.

We were out for a days walking on the downs and along the canal, so we popped into the Kings Arms in All Cannings for lunch on a Tuesday. While it was quiet the pub had a welcoming atmosphere and friendly staff. We enjoyed some great food, freshly cooked and some good Wadsworth Beer. We even went for pudding as the menu looked so good. Can't recommend this pub more highly and they even have a campsite! Really must find an excuse for a second visit!
