“Good cheer on a rainy day”

Good warming lunch on a very wet day. Mushroom soup sandwich and chips all very good. Wadsworth's IPA just the job.

“A proper English pub”
Reviewed 3 December 2013 via mobile

Being a relative local, I have eaten at this pub on many occasions. The welcome is always warm and generous and the food is always of a consistently good standard and not overpriced. A good honest local village pub.

“HOMELY AND WHOLESOME”
Reviewed 6 September 2013

Lovely, friendly, public house and restaurant. We had booked only an hour before we went and were greeted by the restaurant manager as we entered, shown to our seat and made very welcome. The restaurant area is next to the main bar area but raised up. The menu including interesting specials on the board was interesting and wide, and from the quality of the food it was clear that much was home made and cooked. The duck was welcomed by my family and steak and mushroom pie was very filling with gorgeous short crust pasty.

“Excellent Little Eating Place”
Reviewed 11 August 2013 via mobile

Had a lovely eating experience here last night. Menu was imaginative, staff very friendly and wine reasonably priced. If I had any criticism at all it would be that the scallops in the salad were luke warm and I think they would have been nicer if they were served a bit warmer.
The Summer Fruit Pudding was to die for and we will definitely be returning again soon.

“Great village pub”
Reviewed 9 August 2013 via mobile

Stopped here recently to break up a car journey with some lunch. Really lovely atmosphere with regulars at the bar and a very welcoming landlord. Food was good with the battered haddock crisp on the outside and wonderfully fresh in the middle. Duck was good as well but the highlight were the puddings. Wow - gorgeous ice cream and wild strawberries on chocolate cheesecake. If I lived locally I'd be here all the time and will certainly be back if we need another lunch stop.
