“Decent place”
Reviewed 17 June 2014

I stayed at this location with my wife and our two year old toddler in a family room. The positives more than outweigh the negatives in this instance. Firstly the staff all round seemed professional and very helpful, couldn't fault them at all. The downstairs bar and restaurant was nice, cant really comment on the food as we only had a bowl of fries, but looking at other peoples food it looked tasty.

The family room we had was spacious and clean with a decent sized TV and adequate space for storage, we requested a travel cot and the one was provided was really good. Really good sized and clean bathroom. No parking at location but there's a pay and display across the road.

The only small negative is that we was in room 3 situated at the front on the main road, this was quite noisy throughout the night and our toddler struggled to settle. The only other little was the bathroom door had several holes in it, and for £105 per night it wouldn't be a bad idea to nip to B&Q and buy another for twenty quid.

Room Tip: If you have light sleepers in your party request at the rear of the hotel.

Dear reviewer

Thank you for staying at the Castle Hotel and for leaving such a positive review. It is greatly appreciated.

Please accept my apologies about the bathroom door, you're absolutely right, the repairs should have been carried out in a much more timely fashion. The solution is now in hand.

I'm glad that you had a pleasant stay and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Kind Regards

We stayed at The Castle Hotel for two nights and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Our room overlooked the main road but the secondary glazing managed to mute most of the traffic noise. Disposable earplugs - not used by us - were provided for light sleepers. My wife had two really sound nights sleep as did I in a double bed which had a nice firm mattress.

The bath is quite deep so those who are a little unsteady on their feet may require assistance when bathing.

Enjoyed the excellent breakfast - full English with locally sourced produce - and enough to keep one going throughout the day. Part was self service - coffee, tea, juice, cereals and jams for the toast - but the freshly prepared mains were brought to the table by the very friendly waiting team. Other breakfast choices were available including a vegetarian option.

We had dinner twice. The first was the Friday night fish and chips special - very tasty and good value. The surprise was the lamp rump chosen the following day - it was magnificent. This is a cut of meat not served in my locality so we were very pleasantly surprised by the tenderness and flavour of the meat. This dinner choice is highly recommended.

The staff were more than helpful and very friendly. Hope an opportunity to return occurs soon because Devizes is a lovely market town with plenty of privately owned shops in which to browse and spend.

Room Tip: The rooms that do not overlook the road will be quieter.

We have just celebrated our wedding at The Castle Hotel and wish to thank John,Helen and all the hard working staff for making our day so very special . My wife and I were most impressed by the way the staff laid out the room, it was simply lovely. The wedding meal was superb. All our guests commented on the high standard of the food which was enjoyed by everyone. Service was excellent from beginning to end. Well done to all at the Castle for providing us all with such a memorable wedding reception.

Had lunch at the Castle on the two courses for £10 menu and were very impressed with both the quality of the food and the service. Food was of a much better quality than the standard pub grub and the service was friendly and efficient.

We stayed at the Castle whilst visiting family nearby, and what a wonderful place! The food was fantastic, the staff were very friendly and made us feel very welcome. The room was extremely comfortable and one of the best nights sleeps I have had in a while! We will definitely be returning. Extremely recommended.
