“New management aim to succeed”
Reviewed 7 May 2014

While on a canal holiday on the Kennet and Avon, we moored up by this pub twice. This pub is on the Devizes flight of locks and is in between lock 47 and 48.
We were greeted by the landlord who was happy for us to take my dog in with us while we had an evening meal. The food we ordered was excellent well presented and hot, my dog was also give a treat of dog biscuits. Finding a dog friendly pub is very rare these days. The food we had on both occasions was good value for money This pub as been re-decorated and was in excellent order the whole pub had a great atmosphere.
I would recommend this pub for anybody on a canal holiday to stop there for a good meal. The beer was also good !!!

“Great pub, good food and friendly service”
Reviewed 2 May 2014

My wife and I stopped here for lunch which was well cooked and served very quickly from our initial order. The prices were very reasonable and the landlord and landlady were friendly and greeted us both when we arrived. There was plenty of room with the tables well laid out. There are lovely vies of the Kennet and Avon canal on which swans and ducks were enjoying. There is plenty of outdoor seatin right beside the canal. We will certainly visit again and being local that will be soon!

“Good Pub Lunch”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

Stopped here for lunch and sat outside by the canal. Only had drinks, sandwiches and a bowl of chips but perfectly adequate and staff friendly. The sun was shining and we spent a very pleasant hour there. No idea what it's like inside but I would be happy to go again and find out.

“Long lunch”
Reviewed 18 April 2014

Turned up on sunny day at 12:30 for lunch, waited 45 minutes and then asked where our food was. Received an apology that there was delays and our food would be another 15 minutes. After another 20 minutes fish and chips turned up but chips were cold. By now sun had gone in and therefore at 13:45 decided to cut our losses and go to local Spar for sandwiches. At least they had the decency to refund our money even if only through requesting rather than volunteering. So if you have time for a long lunch then this may be a pub for you if not the small cafe along the locks is much nicer and friendlier. (No allegiance to the cafe we are tourists from London).

“Go hungry...it'd be better for you”
Reviewed 11 April 2014

sadly a pre booked table promised much for me and my fellow Canal travellers... Cold main course - re-heated in microwave that dried out the gravy - we could hear the pings! and extra gravy, straight from the Bisto jar.... oh yum.... Pastry that would keep you in shoes for years!
Sadly not a great experience - we won't be heading back......
