After moving to Devizes we had been looking for a decent curry, alas nothing has hit the spot. We didn't find one tonight either. We found an exceptional one. I had a vegetable balti, the veg was fresh not any cheap frozen dice in sight. My husband had a chicken korai with fresh chicken and not frozen chunks . The nan was light and buttery. The staff were very friendly and attentive, they have even promised me my favourite dish that is not on the menu the next time we go. Who could want more?

When One Spice opened in the Autumn it was a breath of fresh air in the Devizes Curry sector. Having taken over from the previous owners (also a Bangladeshi restaurant) One Spice made some basic but significant changes to the layout and decor. This allows more privacy and a real feeling of a dining dining experience. Having used all 4 of the others (5 if you include their predecessors) one Spice is head and shoulder above the rest. A great menu, with a wild card ' ostrich curry' option, we are the standards mixed with some fine chefs specials. My partner likes VERY hot curries and the chef has worked hard to create dishes for her that would take paint of the walls without losing the flavours. They have become friends in the process. If you are looking for a discrete meal for two or a party night you will not be disappointed. I'm of there again tomorrow for a friends birthday on a table of 16. Says it all really.

Just had a really good meal after our friends ordered a take away from here on New Year's Eve for 14 people. Food very good so we decided to go and eat here . Thought it might be quiet after Xmas and horrid weather but very busy. Staff very friendly and food was excellent and tasted very fresh . Might have to come here more often instead of our regular Indian restaurant !! Yum

Neither of us had dined here previously but we were invited along in a party of ten friends on this Saturday evening. We were individually greeted as we entered and shown to a table that had been set aside for us, and as soon as we took our seats, a couple of the waiters were right there to ask us if we would like a drink.

The table was dressed with linen tableclothes and quality linen napkins, a nice touch that you don't always see in a restaurant.

Menus were distributed and the first thing to strike me was the number of availalble dishes, more than I had ever seen on a visit to any other Indian restaurant. We chose poppadums to start with as did we all, and these arrived within a couple of minutes accompanied by four dips and pickles and our drinks.

When we had finished, the waiters quickly cleared the long table and took our main course orders. Some of the party wanted starters but we went straight for the curry dishes, choosing a chicken bhuna, a chicken tikka jalfresi, sag aloo, pilau rice and peshwari naans.

It was on the table within ten minutes, steaming hot, and served in individual balti dishes. Things went quiet them as we all tucked in and I have to say that this has to be one of the best Indian meals I have ever eaten. The chicken on both dishes was succulent and perfectly cooked, the jalfresi sauce was quite fiery but also well seasoned. The naans were superb, light, fluffy and with that hint of sweetness. Caroline said her sag aloo was totally wonderful and between us, all we left was half a naan. After we had finished, plates and bowls were quickly cleared and warm hand wipes were brought to the table, another simple but appreciated touch.

During the meal we both had another pint of the Kingfisher lager, which at £3.30 a pint, was good value for a restaurant. We decided simply to split the bill between the five couples, some probably had more than us but it was the easiest way to split it without resorting to calculators. With a decent tip, we paid £50 per couple which we thought to be great value given the quality of the food we had enjoyed and the attentive service.

As we left, again, the waiters individually bid us "goodbye", a nice touch. Certainly the best Indian restaurant in town for my money and one of the best I've ever eaten at.
