Owner description: The Vaults is a very unique experience unlike any other in Wiltshire. Set in the heart of Devizes this grade 2 listed building is full of character, ambience and atmosphere. This is the place to try if you like to experience new flavours and have your boundaries well and truly pushed by our helpful and knowledgeable staff. A bank of 5 cask ale handpumps greets you when you enter and with no fixed range, each time you visit you'll find something new. In addition there are 3 traditional ciders and over 100 different bottled beers and ciders from all over the world. You'll find a beautifully designed menu that lists all the bottles and the most delicious locally sourced pies. Tasting is the name of the game here. Most popular are the Beer Paddles where you can buy 3 x third of a pint of the ales or the ciders at the regular price of a pint. There are no rules that you have to buy one drink per person, you're encouraged to buy bottles and have tasting glasses to share. All the furniture and decor throughout has been designed and built by a local artist using recycled and scrap timber and metal and adds a touch of quirkiness to the venue.

For friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere and great ales. This place is definitely worth a visit.
The paddle of 3x thirds of a pint is genius. Great way to try a little of each ale for the price of one pint.
Only criticism. The place needs more seating. Other than that, The Vaults is a breath of fresh air away from the countless Wadworth pubs and the dreaded Weatherspoons.

Thanks for your lovely words and glad you love the thirds, we've had to order more paddles they are so popular. We'd love to have more seating too but there just isn't the room for it on a busy night so am afraid that's as much as we can do. Hope to see you again soon.

This is a new venture for Devizes - a micro-pub serving craft-brewed ales and ciders, in a town dominated by Wadworths Brewery. The pub serves an ever-changing range of draught ales and ciders from a bewildering array of small breweries, particularly those local to Wiltshire and the South-West. In addition there is a cellar full of bottled beers from sources all around the world. The place is quite small, but this makes for a great atmosphere. The furniture & decor is quite quirky, being fashioned by a local artist from recycled local materials. Prices are extremely reasonable for such good beers. The place doesn't serve food as such, but carries a range of hot pies and lots of unusual packets of snacks. Opening hours are kept to a sensible core of drinking times, meaning that last orders in the evenings is at 9pm. There are no spirits, no alcopops and only a limited range of wines. There's no music, no juke-box, no fruit machines, just good conversation and a great atmosphere. A must-visit for the discerning beer and cider drinker. A really fantastic addition to Devizes' range of independent businesses.

The Vaults only opened a month ago but for myself, and many other ale lovers in the town, it has already become a firm favourite. The Vaults occupies what was once a wine merchant's store and has inherited the huge cellars beneath, which maintain a perfect, natural temperature to keep wines and bottled beers cold.

The bar itself is warm and cosy, with quirky furniture, as well as the bar and many fixtures which have been made by a local cratfsman, using recycled wood and other materials. The bar staff are a delight, polite, friendly and efficient and always up for a chat should time allow.

The range of beers kept here is staggering; there are usually four or five available on draught, often from local breweries including a couple of ales made by the bar owner at the "Kennet & Avon Brewery". Craft lager is also available for the aficionados of that drink. Behind the bar is a huge shelf unit and a drinks chilling cabinet containing between them a huge range of continental and North American bottled beers, many of which I'd never heard of.

For those wanting a bite to eat, a small range of hot pies is available, made with chicken, beef or venison as well as the regular range of packet snacks.

As mentioned, the Vaults sits astride a vast cellar and the owner is more than happy to take customers down into the "vaults" for a tour of this historic building. I have already taken this tour and it is fascinating.

Prices are comparable with anywhere else in town. The pub closes at 9.30pm each evening and in a town full of pubs, as well as a Brewery Visitor Centre, it makes a welcome, different and interesting watering hole that should be on the agenda for anyone visiting Devizes.
