me and my partner stayed at the black swan hotel over the easter weekend, we had a very enjoyable time. the rooms were lovely and clean, we felt very comfortable during our stay, mike and yvonne who run the black swan hotel were very accommodating. the food was out of this world at a very reasonable price. highly reccommend the black swan hotel, me and my partner look forward to returning in the near future.

We stayed for three days, early May Bank Holiday. The room was dated but clean and comfortable, overlooking the market square. but was very quiet.

Food was absolutely excellent.! From traditional meat pudidng to more exotic main courses, desserts well balanced and delicious. Not even expensive.

Breakfast - a complete feast, complete with delicious black pudding! All ingredients souced locally where possible.

Staff were polite and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. Tables were reserved "just in case you return for dinner". Restuarant busy but service excellent. Tables cleared immediately.

I wasn't expecting luxury, but for £80 per night I was expecting better than I received.

The property is an old building, with lovely characteristics, such as wooden beams and uneven floors. The ground floor has a bar/restaurant and the 1st & 2nd floors are all bedrooms.

The parking is out the back of the hotel in a yard, which was a little tight for space, but to be fair the hotel was fully booked the night we stayed.

The room itself consisted of a double bed with side tables and wall mounted lamps, dresser and wardrobe, coffee making facilities and an ancient TV. The en-suite was a good size containing a W.C, basin and bath/shower.

I found the bed very uncomfortable and the pillows were very thin. The shower was almost non-existent, in fact we got wetter walking from the bus-stop (outside the hotel) to the front door. But worst of all the room stunk of stale smoke.

The breakfast made up for the bad room experience. The buffet choice was good; Fruit juices, cereals, croissants, some fresh fruit, tea and coffee, lots of toast and the choice of a full English breakfast with other cooked options.

My personal experience wasn't great but it wasn't terrible, although I would have preferred to stay in another hotel in the square.

My fiancee wanted to go on one of those overnight ghost vigils for his birthday in March. After looking for what seemed forever, I found one at the Black Swan in Devizes. We took a train from London to Salisbury, then took a small country bus to Devizes. Let me tell you, that was the most picturesque bus ride I have ever been on, it was really like stepping back in time a few centuries. We arrived in Devizes in the market square. Devizes is a small village, but it still has enough to keep you entertained for a day or two. The ghost vigil was the first evening, so we checked into the Black Swan. It is an old coaching inn, pretty sure it even has the wattle and daub walls and a wonky floor, but that just gives it character. The owner and staff were very helpful and cordial, as was everyone we met there (refreshing change from London). The hotel was nice, clean, the food was good. The vigil was fun, definitely worth doing once in your life. I would go back to Devizes in a heartbeat, my partner says when we get too old to care about concerts and going to Camden to shop for clothes we should retire there. Definitely recommend the hotel, for the stay and for the vigil.
