This place could do with some investment. The exterior is getting quite shabby and the state of the flooring from the kitchen to the restaurant and on the bedroom corridor was unforgiveably very dirty. There was also bad mould on the bedroom windows. The food was, in our view, not much better than average. Both the accommodation and food was overpriced for what it was. We would not stay again.

We were greeted and shown about with wonderful courtesy. As we sipped a beer and had a great seafood meal, both our host and the locals filled us in on how to get to the must-see canal locks in town. Breakfast was ready when we requested and lovely. The room was of course quirky--it's hundreds of years old--but with a great bed, every amenity we needed, we thorough enjoyed our stay.

The George and Dragon is part of the best inns to stay in England, and I agree with this. This is a family ruled inn, in a nice old building. It makes the room a bit unusual, with bathroom and toilets private but separated. Only unpleasant thing, the carpet in the room and corridor is a bit rough. But everything is organised so that you would feel comfortable nonetheless. Bathrobes are available to go from your room to your bathroom. Also to mention the natural cosmetics available.
It is a good idea to have dinner in the pub, which can offer a good choice of freshly caught fish form Cornwall. The breakfast is also quite nice, and with home made jams.

My boyfriend & I stayed at this gorgeous little B&B/pub/restaurant in April 2012 and we really enjoyed our stay. From the moment we arrived the service we received from ALL staff was excellent. The room we stayed in had an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower and we feel this is the best room of all three offered. The room covered all needs we required, the bed was very comfortable, with a fabulous goosedown duvet. There was plenty of hot water whenever we needed it in the bathroom, as well as good quality shampoo, conditioner, soap & shower gel. There's a tv and an Ipod docking station in the bedroom. Teas, coffee and a variety of other drinks and confectionary items are freely available outside of your room and were very welcome between lunch and dinner!!
We ate in the pub restaurant on one of the night's we stayed and we would highly recommend a meal here. It has a very relaxed atmosphere, but the food is very, very good. (We would also recommend Jack Spratt's Tapas restaurant in Devizes for dinner). The breakfast is also very good, but we did begrudge paying extra for anything cooked. However, you would be easily satisfied with the continental breakfast which is included in the price of your room.

This place is a little gem and we would certainly recommend staying here. We would definitely return.

Sorry to not add current information as stayed here so long ago, but just wanted to say so glad to see that this place has gone from strength to strength. We stayed about five years ago when cycling from Reading to Bristol and had a wonderful relaxing night & lovely meal. We felt the owners deserved success so great to see they are getting such good reviews.Thinking we must go back again soon...

We like to travel and visit various parts of the country. This was one of the best we have come across. From the initial welcome, to the lovely room, the staff could not do enough for you. This place felt like home! All of the staff seem to love what they do and really do want you to have a good time. They succeeded!

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 3 are ensuite. Room 2 is not.

Having stayed at the George and Dragon several times, I'm pleased to say I've no negative things to report. The hospitality is fantastic and the food superb. Nothing too much trouble, and great value. It's worth a visit for the breakfasts alone and the homemade preserves to die for. All the meals we have eaten have been superb, and chef Chippy is accommodating with substitutions. The menu is mainly fish based, with daily changing specials, last night was oysters, tuna, crab, sea bream, lemon sole and moules, which I had. Huge tasty portion. Husband had rare roast beef salad to start and pronounced it delicious. Mains were rib eye steak and pork belly, a personal favourite and cooked to perfection. Mustard mash was substituted for garlic mash with no fuss. Wine list small but good and reasonably priced. Too full for desert, but sounded lovely.

All in all a fabulous find and can't wait for our next visit.
