Had 2 days here this month, due to work commitments in the area. Have stayed here several times before. As always the welcome is warm, the rooms fabulous and the food excellent. Breakfasts are a real treat. Looking forward to returning, hopefully soon.

My partner and I stayed at the In for Valentines. On a very stormy night the power went off across the village. The saff did not outwardly panic were very attentative continuing to deliver excellent food on time. Eating in an old inn in the candle light. The team could not have written the script better for us. Very romantic

We were fortunate to sample both Room 1 which is large has a very comfortable bed and excellent shower; and also room 2 for the second night. Smaller (Watch your head when entering!!!) but equally comfortable. We were nervous about the toilet and shower being down a short corridor but we had no problems and you do not share it.

Tea and coffee making facilities with fresh milk not UHT on the landing was a nice touch.

The downside was that it was a little expensive both for room and food. Although both of good quality we have stayed in similar type of Inns with higher star rating but cheaper. That said I would go back and would recommend the inn to others. The olde worlde structure of the building complimented by simple decor and stunning fireplace/fire make the inn a very warm and inviting place to stay and eat. To top it all the whole team of staff were excelllent. Friendly, knowledgeable of the history of the inn, food being served and where to go. We were made to feel part of the family during our stay.

Thank you

My boyfriend bought me to the George and Dragon for a Saturday night in early December for a surprise for my birthday and we had a really lovely time. The pub has a atmospheric, quaint feel to it being a small room with an open fire. The manager was charming and very helpful suggesting places we could visit nearby. The room was absolutely gorgeous, boutique style with generous high end toiletries. White fluffy robes and a double sized bath. You access the rooms by opening a wooden door and going up the creaky stairs which you can imagine have been there hundreds of years, great fun! The food in the restaurant was of very good quality and if you enjoy seafood you will love it (we are not fans of seafood but still had a wonderful meal). All in all highly recommended and would definitely return.

A genuinely old, quirky, cosy pub, with nice canal walks very nearby and deliciously fresh seafood on the menu, what more could you want? We had a fish platter consisting of oysters, lobster, scallops, smoked salmon and cod; it was delicious.

We had a lovely relaxed stay and will definitely return.

My wife and I went there and had lovely seafood meal, so we went back 6 weeks later and took 4 friends.

Sadly, it was nowhere near as good as our first visit. Two people did not get quite what they asked for, portions were small and it was not as tasty as others places we have been. It was also very expensive.

"Could try harder" I would say. They should visit "Number 7" in Torquay to see how to run a fish restaurant well.

we were told about this place by the owner of our bed and breakfast ( Avalon lodge). so booked a table whilst walking by one lunchtime. Upon arrival in the evening we were greeted nicely and had a pre meal drink by a glorious log fire. We then chose our table as it was not that busy. The menu is good and quite varied but fish is quite dominant. The food was lovely and the service was first class, our waitress, a young English girl was very good. Would go back there although it is quite expensive.

My wife and I were looking for a place to have a long weekend in the country. We essentially wanted to create our own version of "The Trip" where we could stay in a beautiful B&B with stunning food.

The George And Dragon (GaD) was that place. We were initially enticed by the room photos which showed a lovely modern but also classic interior. The room exceeded our expectations. The bed was beautiful and the bathroom was even better. There are DVDs on hand if you want to relax. The bathroom is stocked with Cowshed bath products which are lovely.

After the room, we were looking for a B&B that offered excellent dining. The reviews for GaD were excellent and we could see why. The food was homely but beautifully presented. We couldnt be happier.

Then we wanted to be able to investigate the area and the neighboring town of Devizes is a lovely market town with some beautiful shops. Also nearby are the grounds of Lacock where we were reliably informed by the staff, much of Harry Potter was filmed.

All in all we couldnt rate this weekend any better. Even the drive home to London via Marlborough was a delight.

Room Tip: Room 1 was beautiful
