“Formal But Friendly …….. Sublime!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2014

This was our first visit to Whatley Manor, but it won't be our last! The hotel has 15 rooms and 8 suites and we booked a standard double which included breakfast + newspapers. The hotel is tucked away in the countryside close to Malmesbury and just the driveway up to the hotel was breathe taking with a tantalising glimpse of the beautiful garden (12 acres). The reception committee was waiting in the courtyard no doubt alerted by us driving through the gate at the top of the drive. Luggage was taken and an offer to park the car was ventured. At reception we discovered our standard room had been upgraded to a superior room which was a good start. The staff, whilst performing their tasks in a formal, efficient and very correct way, managed to be very friendly also, and this is a miracle of their training I am sure. Our room was delightful and well appointed, a haven of relaxation. The Spa, where treatments were available although we didn't avail ourselves of them, had a steam room, sauna and spa pool. However, the pool whilst ideal for jacuzzi enthusiasts was a bit limited for swimming, but as it's meant to be a spa pool, swimming is not its main function.

We had booked our dinner in the main dining room under the direction of two-starred Michelin chef Martin Burge. Whilst you will need deep pockets (£85 a la carte including canapés amuse bouche, pre-desserts etc, £110 for the 7 course tasting menu), take it from me it is well worth it and is without fault. A word about breakfast. My test for a quality breakfast service is can a hotel provide me with a correctly cooked scrambled egg delivered hot to me? Passed with flying colours! From the beautiful gardens and terraces to the relaxing and peaceful lounges this is place to go to be totally pampered. If you can go for it!

Room Tip: Room 3 just brilliant

We had been staying local to whatley manor and wanted to find a place where we could spend a day in a spa. I called up in the morning and they couldn't have been more helpful with trying to book us in. We paid 48 pound per person for half a day and it was definitely value for money! The spa has 3 steam rooms, 1 sauna, a wave room which I found very relaxing, salt showers, heated bed to lie on and a swimming pool with majority of different jets for different parts of the body. We also decided to have lunch and we both tucked into 2 club sandwiches panini which were also very nice. Overall I would definitely come back again. One of the best spa I found!

Our only regret about staying at Whatley Manor is that we did not have more time to explore the gardens and relax at the spa. We chose this as our base for activities in the Costwolds which meant that we spent most of our time away from the hotel. That said, some of these activities were recommended by Whatley Manor - clay pigeon shooting, hot air balloon trip - and were highlights of our trip. Whatley Manor is beautiful - the staff are friendly and attentive with personal service; the spa is fabulous, with amenities open to guests even if you have not booked a treatment. While the manor itself is quintessentially English, there are many European touches that are evident (a legacy no doubt of its Swiss owners). we will most certainly return.

Dear Charmane R, Thank you for your feedback on Trip Advisor. It sounds like you made the most of your stay in the Cotswolds with the activities that you arranged. I am pleased that you liked our setting and you found our staff to be friendly and attentive. On your next stay here I would definitely recommend booking some spa treatments in Aquarias Spa and making use of the spa facilities. You also mentioned you wanted to explore our gardens a bit more. We provide our guests with a map which takes you around the 26 different areas. We hope to see you again on your return visit to Wiltshire. Kind regards Gurval Durand, general manager and the Whatley Manor team.

Stayed here with my mum and 'fuzzy peg' in May and had a super time. It's great to find a dog friendly hotel that embrace our canine friends and provide treats and suggestions for good dog walks. Unfortunately the humans didn't have time to use all the facilities, such as the spa, as we were too busy dog walking and taking in the beautiful gardens! The gardens are worth taking a detour for as they are spectacular and well maintained...

We stayed at the Whatley Manor in our last trip to the UK. It was a great experience from the moment you arrive. The grounds are beautiful, the service friendly and helpful; all what you can wish for. We did no use the spa facilities, but the other couple did, and though, they've been there before, they enjoyed it as usual. We had a lovely afternoon tea experience outside and at night we went for a wonderful dinner at the restaurant.
All in all, wonderful experience in the English countryside.
