“The perfect country retreat - and simply the best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 August 2014

We had booked Whatley Manor to celebrate our 45th Wedding Anniversary and what a delightful weekend we have experienced. From the moment of our arrival in the courtyard of this wonderful Cotswolds manor House Hotel we were treated with absolute kindness and courtesy. WE had arrived a little time before the room was available to were able to enjoy a very relaxed light lunch and a glass of wine in the Drawing Room before being shown up to our room ( so kindly courteously upgraded) to a suite overlooking the wonderful gardens. The suite was so well appointed and offered a great level of comfort which really added to our weekends enjoyment. The Spa facilities are amazing and again offered us a very opportunity to relax and unwind throughout the weekend as did walking through the gardens. We ate in Le Mazot of the Friday evening and the Dining Room on Saturday evening and both provided a superb choice of both food and wine accompanied by excellent service and cooking, and the team must be complimented for their skills in accommodating my wife's gluten and dairy intolerances without compromising the balance, flavours and appearances of any of the dishes selected from the menu. We also lunched in the Spa one day and found that throughout our stay all members of staff had been made aware of this issue and responded to these dietary needs without fuss. ( This also included a gluten free biscuit and soya milk with the morning tea tray).Throughout our stay every member of staff from the Manager down to the room maids were polite, courteous and kind in a totally unobtrusive way and nothing was too much for them when asked. Bless you all for making our weekend so memorable, this anniversary is one that will provide us with memories for a long time to come.

Room Tip: Suites are superb

I stayed for 2 nights, using the hotel as our base to visit the Cotswold region. The room was really outstanding, it was almost a suite instead of a superior room, with plenty of space, fantastic bed and terrific bathroom. Breakfast was good and we also had dinner one night at Le mazot restaurant and the food was very good. Bottom line: it is a great property, that is not cheap, but offers a very good stay for those that want to relax and enjoy the English countryside.

My wife and I have just spent three nights at Whatley Manor. On arrival we found the staff at reception to be extremely helpful and polite and that followed through the whole of our stay. All the staff are superb, without exception. We were upgraded to a suite which was large and very comfortable. However, we found the décor and lighting rather dull and a dark, and certainly did not lift the spirits. The room seems to have been designed by a man as there was no dressing table and the lighting in the bathroom was dark.

The Spa is out of this world and the therapists are wonderful. After a spa experience an opportunity to have a healthy option menu of a variety of salads rather than Sandwiches, Panini, or a prawn cocktail would be worth the hotel considering.

We ate in Le Mazot for our three dinners and our only comment would be that the menu is rather limited.

The overall experience of our stay was exceptionally good.

Dear Tony M, We are delighted to read that as a whole you enjoyed a great stay. We have noted your comments about the décor of the room and lighting. We would love to know which room number you are referring to so that we can re-assess the suite and where possible improve. I would agree that after three meals in the Brasserie you would find the choice a little limited as we change the menu choice progressively throughout the seasons. We can also prepare dishes not on the menu for long stay guests on request, maybe something to consider next time. I will speak to the kitchen regarding your feedback on the spa menu. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. Kind regards Gurval Durand, general manager and the Whatley Manor team.

Spent one night at Whatley Manor with two friends as a joint birthday treat. The prices reflect the standards, and despite a frosty reception from the lady on the front of house, our experience warmed up beautifully from there. The grounds are beyond manicured, and there's a peace and calm there that was a world away from my daily reality. We had lunch and cocktails on the terrace, surrounded by the scent of jasmine and gorgeous flowers. Was slightly underwhelmed by the lunch menu-pretty standard fare, nothing all that exciting-and was gobsmacked by a prawn cocktail for £27 but it was all perfectly presented and service was great. The spa was sublime, with all the attention to detail you'd expect for the price and a good range of steam rooms and chill out areas. They upgraded us free of charge to a suite, so we were delighted with our room, and had a lovely cocktail in the lounge before our dinner in the brasserie. The decor is swiss style, so maybe more winter friendly but the service and food was great, and we weren't disappointed by the choice not to go Michelin. Slept beautifully, and had a wonderful breakfast in the garden in the sun the following morning. Greeted by the manager who seemed genuinely interested in us, and then ensured the waiter brought us a cake as we had mentioned it was a birthday treat night away. Spent all day again in the spa and then had a lovely afternoon tea on the terrace before we reluctantly left. My only regret was not having my partner there as it would have been even more special if I was able to share it with him, so planning an autumn trip back together. Not to be missed. Don't let the prices put you off. You get what you pay for.

Have enjoyed this hotel & restaurant since it reopened more than 10 years ago.During every stay we have always felt more like friends than guests, the management & staff here have a charming way of making you feel completely at ease as soon as you come through the door & that feeling continues throughout the stay.
Sadly my wife & I have now moved out of the area & our most recent visit follows a gap of 2 years during which time management & staff have undergone some changes. Is it still as good?????
Very happy to report that it is,the hotel is gem,the food is sublime & the staff are 5 star.
If there"s a better way to recharge the batteries I have yet to find it.
Life does not get much better than this.

Room Tip: Have stayed in a few & they are all first class

From the moment you turn into the property you know you are somewhere special with perfectly manicure lawns and Cotswold drystone walls. The grand impression continues with the house itself, wow. On getting out of car asked name of reservation from then on we were not asked our name or room number again, the sign of great staff and a very personable hotel experience. We were upgraded to a wonderful suite and all was perfect and superbly maintained. Very nice bathroom and toiletries. Breakfast was simply brilliant, service perfect, you must try the black pudding, simply the best.
We travel all around the world and have had the great fortune to stay in some of the best, this is amongst those very best, but in our back garden. Wonderful.

My husband and I have just returned from our 3rd stay - a two night get-a-way in room 14 at Whately. We really couldnt fault it. An amazing expereince - the spa is second to none, and we were so lucky to also have gorgeous weather which meant we could relax on the spa terrace in the sunshine too.
Staff are incredibly helpful and food incredible! We had afternoon tea on the terrace - highlight was the macaroons - to die for!
If you are looking for a peaceful, romantic retreat look no further.
We are already planning our return!

Room Tip: All rooms are fantastic!
