We live locally and go to the Birdcage, on average, once a month. Great food, lovely place and prompt service (especially if you are running a bit late for the brilliant movies@malmesbury in the town hall).
BUT ... and it is a significant one, our experience has been marred the Manager, who has been grumpy on every occasion we’ve been in. And I promise we’re well behaved and polite. So I’m not at all surprised by the above review from Jothevegan. What a shame!

A table for 5 for Sunday Lunch. The ambience was wonderful, the staff smartly turned out, friendly and welcoming.
The menu was tempting and we all selected the roast. The plates arrived with a generous portions of attractively arranged vegetables, huge puffy Yorkshire puddings and beautifully cooked meats. The roast sirloin beef was so tender that it melted in the mouth.
The tempting puddings were a nice size and delicious.
All in all it was a lovely experience and the price was about right for the quality of the venue and food.
Will definitely go again for special occasion.

Great food (though quite pricey for what you actually get - the toppings on some of the pizzas we're quite sparse). Brilliant vegan cheese option

The staff are excellent, friendly and very helpful - one lady kindly offered to take my bag so I could get our baby upstairs easier. This is the second time I have been and I find the staff have an excellent manner.

However, after a great meal with great service we went to the till to pay out part of the bill. We were part of a large party, but had to leave early to get out baby home. The manager on the desk was extremely put out but this, and made it clear that we had made her life very difficult stating 'no one told us you would want to pay seperately' glaring at our bill, and making adding ours up seem like the hardest job in the world despite the calculator she was holding. She then asked how many people were in the group so she could figure out our service contribution... Which my partner had to point out would simply be a percentage of our cost... 10% to be exact... As stated on your website. No one asked how we would like the bill... So perhaps don't assume next time... and just ask the customers? That way you won't be so terribly put out by such a complicated request. What a shame someone so senior ruined what was a lovely evening.

Excellent pizzas and fabulous puddings including Italian ice cream. Friendly, attentive service. Such a change from our usual Pizza Express in our home town. And cheaper too!

I have no complaints at all other than I felt it was a bit pricy for a pizza restaurant and the cheese and garlic pizza entrée was miniscule but to be fair that may be the local standard.
The food, all of it, entrées, mains and desserts were excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful and it had a very pleased atmosphere.
