Myself and my partner eat here quite regularly and having worked our way through most, if not all of the menu there isn't anything we wouldn't recommend. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly with quite muted decor, livened up by the framed jockeys silks covering the walls (hence the name of the restaurant). Service is friendly but it can be a little slow getting the bill when they're fully booked. My particular lunchtime favourites are the fish and chips, and smoked salmon with crayfish salad, which are both totally delicious. The only thing I'm not too keen on is that in the evening vegetables are served in a side dish - personally I prefer to have them on my plate. But that's as much of a complaint as I can make. If you like desserts the sticky toffee pudding is fantastic. I might regret posting this review - if too many people go we might not be able to get in anymore :(

My wife and I had a very pleasant morning in Marlborough on Saturday 25th July. Having been recommended The Royal Oak in Wootton Rivers just off the A346 Marlborough to Salisbury Road we arrived at the Royal Oak at 12 midday. Having ordered what were described as Wholemeal Sandwiches of Roast Beef and Cheese and Onion, despite there being only two other couples in the pub we then waited until 12-40pm to be served stale multi grain bread sandwiches which were appalling with a side salad containing some carrot and sour vegetables. Having complained about the sandwiches and the time to serve them there was no hint of recompense. We left having consumed little made palatable by lots of mayonnaise and drove back towards Swindon and to the Silks on the Downs at Obbourne St Andrew. What a difference! Superb service excellent baguette fresh sandwiches. Also a superb looking menu. Sat in the sunshine on the veranda at the rear of the pub we were able to forget about the appalling offering at the Royal Oak.
Our advice to anyone travelling on the A346 do not waste your time and money travelling off here to visit the Royal Oak as the Silks on the Downs is on the main road and offers superb dining and service.

Just back from a very pleasant lunch at this pub / restaurant (more of a restaurant) about a mile North outside Marlborough on the main road out to the M4. Its actually in the tiny village of Ogbourne St Andrew, but I cant imagine anyone ever plugging that into a search engine :-)

We at in the light and airy dining room, there is also a small outside garden area, full of tables so would be fine for eating out on a nice day but not really space for kids to run around if that's why you would be looking for a garden.

We paid a very reasonable aprox £20 head before tip for mains, desert and coffee/tea plus drinks (not wine), I think dinner would be similar. If you were looking for a 'lighter lunch' they also do baguettes and similar.

Definitely will revisit.
