At the end of a long day's touring we were looking forward to a warm welcome and to relax and wind down. On arrival we found nobody there, On the door was a note saying that Brown's Farm is a working farm and they could be in the paddocks. A mobile phone number was provided to contact. As we did not have a mobile phone we went into town for an hour, came back and still found nobody was there. We then left again, found a public phone box and rang the number provided several times but no answer. We returned to the farm and after 10mins or so, spotted Mark, Hazel's husband who was able to let us to our room. The room was pleasant with a lovely rural outlook. We then did not see anyone till breakfast the next morning. Hazel did not seem at all fussed for not being there to receive us, and did not even introduce herself (we only knew their names as that was in the printout of details we had). After serving a full English breakfast Hazel hit us with a 10 pound extra charge for our en suite! We found the whole experience awkward and uncomfortable as we feel a warm welcome is the MOST IMPORTANT criteria for a pleasant stay. After all we are coming into their home.. It would have been a friendly gesture to waive the 10 pound charge to make up for our inconvenience as it was close to 6pm before we saw anyone..An apology would have also been nice. We are not hard to please but it seemed they no idea we were arriving. So I suggest you ring a day ahead to confirm your arrival.
