“Good value, old fashioned pub accommodation”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 June 2013 via mobile

I stayed for a night on a work trip to Marlborough.

It was a Monday night so the pub was quiet - it's a traditional pub that does evening meals with hearty sized portions.

I booked stable room 2 on line - and it was a small but attractive double, comfortable and spotless. (Only complaint is the bed was a bit soft for my personal taste.)

The room looked over the courtyard, which has tables and so I guess it could be noisy at the weekend. But it was absolutely quiet on my Monday night stay.

Breakfast was a generous full English served in the bar area.

I would happily stay again if visiting Marlborough on business.

A recent visit to the Wiltshire town of Marlborough led my wife and myself to the gates of the Lamb Inn, a quaint 17th century coaching Inn close just off the main draw of the High st. Obviously a popular pub in town, we turned up at lunch time and decided take lunch before after after a pleasant reception at the bar. High standard of food here, theme of the menu was local, seasonal produce (not a Chicken Sala Ciabatta and chips in sight ). Obvious care taken here, locally sourced beef, game, seafood, seasonal veg all represented. Bistro standard.

The Room had a rustic feel but came well equipped, large comfortable bed, fresh linen, Television, free wifi, coffee and tea making facilities. Ensuite was functional and clean, above and beyond what I would generally expect from a B&B setting. The breakfast was all you could want from a breakfast.

For people unfamiliar with Marlborough or the area the town is well placed for its proximity to a variety of historical sites and is surrounded by extremely peaceful english countryside. The town itself is obviously quite lively, shops, pubs, restaurants all garnish the high st.

In short, great pub, solid B&B, very friendly establishment and I would challenge anyone to find similar levels of service at their local Travelodge for the price.

We arrived about 17:00 on Saturday evening. Bar area is very old fashioned but staff were friendly, checked in after a few drinks with no problem,. We had 'The Hobday 'room on the first floor. it had a nice four poster bed but the world’s smallest bathroom. It was shoehorned in and had a sliding door right by the toilet that was two steps away from the bed, no privacy. Anyway we changed and went out on the town (no pub food at weekends BTW). We returned about 10:30 and wanted a good night’s sleep, some chance. On-going up to the room we quickly realised that not only were we right over the bar, jukebox and all, but also over the front door that banged every minute! By midnight it had quietened down. Next problem was the nosiest water system ever that banged and gurgled every 5 minutes. Next surprise was about 6am to find pigeons were nesting outside our window and were cooing away! The breakfast was ok but I couldn’t wait to get away. No way was that worth £80 anyway, go an stay at The Castle and Ball (who were full) for a massively better experience.

The pub itself was warm and cosy with a good selection of real ales.
I am a vegan and they were accommodating of this.

The room looked a little 'jaded' and it looked as though a range of updating was occurring on site so the rooms may also be soon upgraded.

Pleasant owners - we would stay here again.

Well located centrally in this market town. A basic locals pub with BnB rooms. Decent sized room which was very clean and had all that you need, TV, Coffee, etc in room. Very good quality food for breakfast. Can't find fault for the price.

Needed a hotel for one night in Marlborough. It is a pleasant pub mainly for locals which served good beers and pleasant service.

Room was at back in the stable block. Not luxury but served a purpose and was clean albeit a little worn in places. Given the choice of a Travelodge or Premier Inn etc i would choose the Lamb. You get character here but dont expect 5 star comfort.

Bar had nice fire burning which made it warm and cosy for an evenings drink. Did not have meal other than breakfast which was very good and cooked to order.

Needed to stay in Marlborough and saw The Lamb on the internet. At £50 my expectations weren't high. A warm cheerful welcome when I arrived, the kitchen staff were happy to cook me a meal even though i arrived quite late. They care about the quality of the food served and the meal was good proper pub food helped down with Wadworths 6X straight from the wood. Whilst some of the decor is a little tired the room was cosy, comfortable and clean.Wireless Internet included. The full English breakfast was great and plenty of it.
I could have gone to a plastic, soulless, character less Travelodge or similar for more money and the cost of breakfast on top. Why would anyone do that when there are places like The Lamb Inn?

Room Tip: Stable block is a bit quieter than the main pub building.
