We visited whilst returning to our base at Hilperton on a Saturday. We decided to moor up for lunch and whilst the Barge looked busy things went well at the bar and later for food. Whilst the food is very good it is at the more pricey end of the pub food spectrum. Five of us had the fish of the day with chips and crushed minted peas which appeared very quickly after ordering. This was delicious but at nearly £12 per person it certainly should be.As mentioned the inn was very busy so the quick service was an unexpected bonus. A good quantity of outdoor seating make it ideal for families or groups.

We dropped in here whilst on a daytrip on a barge from Trowbridge, we travelled to The Barge, had lunch and travelled back again. We were a party of eight and were seated straight away. The surroundings are very comfortable and clean.
There was plenty to choose from on the menu although there could have been more choice for vegetarians. There is even a menu for gluten free dishes. You have to go to the bar to order.
I chose the smoked haddock gratin whilst my husband chose the burger, I can't remember what everyone else had unfortunatly however it did'nt take long to be served, was hot and well presented.
The burger was supposed to be served in a brioche bun which my husband was looking forward to but it was a normal one, other than that he said it was tasty and he enjoyed it. It was served on a slate which was'nt anything special, a plate would have surficed and probably would have been more hygenic. My smoked haddock gratin had rather small pieces of fish in it and was served with too much cheese on the top. It was tasty but was overpriced for the quality of the dish. The prices on the menu are above average which I don't mind paying if the quality is there but the meals that were served to myself and the rest of our party were just 'average' and nothing special. Maybe the food is better of a weekend??!!
There is a good choice of beers here with lots of seating both inside and outside in the lovely beer garden next to the canal.

We found this via a dog friendly website and we're not disappointed. The pub exterior and interior were lovely. Great choice of beers and cider on tap and a fantastic variety of food available on the menu. The food was beautifully served and really tasty. They allowed dogs in the bar area and also had a larger dining area too. Would recommend.

We had a family birthday meal yesterday evening, and we had a really good night. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was good and the décor, all very welcoming.

What could be nicer on a warm summer day than to sit in a pub garden with the dog watching the boats go by?? Bar service was disappointing - they were too busy chatting to each other to serve me antil I asked if they were open! Waitress service excellent - helpful and friendly. Food was mediocre. Will, however be back as it is such a great location.
