“Good Food, glorious views”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 August 2014 via mobile

Walked to the Bell Inn from the Camping and Caravanning club site on the advise off one of holiday site wardens. So glad we made the effort. The gentleman who served us couldn't have been more accommodating. We sat on the lovely raised decking area with superb views over Sailsbury Plain. We only had a snack. It was perfectly presented, large portions and delicious and we were to full for desserts. If we found ourselves in the area again we would definitely return.

“Nightmare service, Terrible staff and a very emotional visit”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 June 2014

Me and my husband popped in on our way home, thinking the pub looked good on the outside so "why not". We saw there was a offer on saying "2 for 1" on main meals. which was good as prices were expensive. I ordered off the 2 for 1 menu, which most people would think it means i can order 1 meal and get another meal free? (im heavily pregnant and i was very hungry and wanted to take advantage of the offer and my husband was rather hungry to so we thought we could share a meal as he also ordered another smaller meal of another page/menu). But the man behind the bar refused to serve us saying there was only two of us so we cannot have 3 meals (even though there offer was in clear black and white) because "everyone would want a free meal". This made no sence to me so i said they are falsly advertising an off if they arent actually doing it. So i said i would speak to trading standards. Then the rude man behind the bar spoke to the Chef/ landlady and she came over being really rude saying good luck and your wasting your time. Shortly followed by another man. Started arguing saying are you phoning trading standards? I replied yes. With that he told us to leave the pub and we had already reluctantly paid for the 2 meals (not including the free meal). we eventually got a refund but was also threatened about going to trading standards. The bar man tried snatching our reciept back so i had no proof 3 times and the landlord followed us out the bar shouting "you know your in the wrong thats why your leaving"?!?! Obviously trying to incite a confrontation. And i couldnt deal with arguing with these horrible people because they were trying to con us. I will never set foot in this place again. Please dont waste your time or money on these people.

“Terrific fresh food, beautiful site”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2014

We chanced on The Bell while driving from Wells to Devizes. Hungry, and hoping to find somewhere to eat where there was room to put the car (as Americans, we were driving on the "wrong" side of the road and finding things a bit narrow, automotively speaking). Around the curve comes The Bell, with an actual parking lot and a wonderful view across the Salisbury Plain. The food was a fine surprise--we ordered the burger of the day, which was lamb with goat cheese, delicious! Everything was fresh fresh fresh--crisp salad, great bread, and what can I say about Wadworth 6X, except it was a delicious pint brewed locally.

“Good food, excellent value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2014

We saw that this pub was doing a special offer of two dinners for the price of one so we thought we would try it and were very pleasantly surprised. We hadn't made a booking but got a table with no problem. My husband had faggots and I had a falafel and roasted red pepper burger and both meals were very good. The portions were very generous too and I struggled to get through mine. Even if the deal hadn't been on, the price would still have been good as the meals are not at all expensive. Service was prompt and the girl who served us was very friendly and courteous. We ate inside and the pub has maintained its old world charm, which is nice, but if the weather was warmer it would have been great to eat outside as the view of the surrounding countryside is breathtaking. We will definitely go back on a regular basis.

“Good food, just lacking a few details to make it a good restaurant”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 March 2014

A good:- Place is a lovely building
Food was very tasty, portions generous
Good service

The bad:- Glassware and cutlery grubby
windows could do with a clean
veg served cold
a little over priced in comparison to other places nearby.

Again if those points are tackled the experience would be great, worth a visit and I hopefully will again.
