“Got what I paid for ....”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 May 2012

My partner and I booked this as a last minute weekend break, the rates were very reasonable, £88 for 2 nights B & B.
The room was in a set of (approx 4/6) others in an annexe above the function room. On both nights we could feel the banging of music, shutting of the next rooms doors and pretty much everything that happened in them. Our room was a good size, huge bed and more than adequate storage space. The décor was rather tired looking and the TV was an old 14” CRT, not easy to watch whilst lying in bed.
The bath had some contraption, I think it was meant to be Jacuzzi bubbles, it didn’t look very nice to me so I didn’t want to try it. My partner tried it and said that it only gave one shot then stopped (I don’t think this is the way it is supposed to work).

We had ordered breakfast in bed (we were not advised that there would be a £5 tray charge but hey ho) the tray was not covered so the food was not so hot.

The food was of lovely quality (not at all as previous advisors have mentioned) there was more than enough and it tasted freshly cooked.

There was, on both occcasions, no butter for the toast and on the 2nd morning we didn’t recevie any juice.

The staff were very friendly and helpful.

You get what you pay for and, although we did enjoy our stay, it would not be a hotel I would rush back to.

Booked through a travel offer so paid only £58 for B & B for 2 in a standard room. The room was in an annex, rather small, nice bathroom and clean throughout. Very small old TV which was impossible to view from the bed, we were told that these will be replaced with larger flat screen in time. Staff very nice, nothing too much trouble. We ate in the restaurante and were most impressed with the food. If you didn't want to eat in, then the town is only 5 mins stroll away with many pubs etc. I would stay again but would be tempted to pay extra for a larger room.

Booked through Travel Offers who are incredible value....

Everything was great---great staff, superb three course meal, lovely room, quiet---except for an extremely loud Oriental women who was part of a Conference in the hotel and who dominated the Conservatory restaurant for three hours---Midsomer murders flashed through many minds.....

But the Chef obviously cooked the 4 urns of Breakfast the night before, because the eggs potatoes , bacon and sausages were inedible
So it was blighted by this

Cook breakfast individually and dont let this part of the experience ruin the reputation

Otherwise very good

To start with we arrived at 3-30 found they did room service. Went to reception only to be told there was no one in the kitchen. Reception asked us to take a seat in the lounge and 30mins later a waiter turned up, We asked for a Ham sandwich , chips, and tea for 3 and diet cook.and biscuts. 45 mins later our order turned up. We got 4 sandwiches two lots of chips and no biscuts. We did get the tea and diet coke.
The evening meal was even worse, there were ants crawling over the table in the resutrant which we killed, we order our food Fish stew, lasania for 2. The fish stew was undercooked fish was translucnat, we sent this back asked for it to be cooked a little more 20mins later the fish stew arrives again, this time you guessed it the fish was still undercooked. The hotel took the price of our wine off the bill.
We were staying here for a wedding the following day. We held our breath to see what would happen next.

Only stay here if you have to, The bedrooms are very small with 4ft 6inc beds not much good if your use to sleeping in a super king size, The room had the smaillest tv set ever, sliding wordrobe
had one handel that fell off, rooms are in anex facing the kitchen with lound extractor fan and lights from the opposit building shining into the room,

Our window openned on to a car parking area which could be nosiey at times. How do they get away with sloppy service and crap food. Hotle staff think they doing you a favour, whay advertise room service 24hrs when no one is in the kitchen

Room Tip: dont stay here chose a better hotel if you can find one

Suited us as we were in the area for a specific reason. Looks nicer on the web, as most of the rooms are out of sight in an annex in the trees, so will have to go outside for the bar and restaurant. Booked a standard room so couldn't complain at its small size. For an apparently new extension it was very badly designed. Large bathroom at the expense of the bedroom. The first dressing table ever without a mirror in site. The one to put on makeup is found by bending over the loo. Likewise the only one to dry hair is in the entrance hall area so you have to stand, not great if you're over the hill a bit. Room apart from the loo was quite pleasant simple and clean. All these things could be simply remedied.
Ate in the hotel as it was convenient, food no more than average, but reasonably priced, and staff very helpful. Would we stay there again, might do but would book a bigger room and eat out.

Room Tip: Pick a bigger one than standard and ask what it's like, some in the old farmhouse might be nicer...

Impromptu meal - lived nearby for years but never been . Very pleasant experience -,lovely starters and great steaks.
Did a meal deal or two and ended up paying very reasonable figure. Service a little slow but there was a big reception next door. Definitely recommend and we will return

We booked this hotel for a weekend with friends visiting National Trust locations in the area.
The hotel looks like a lovely Country House hotel and is just off the M4, so ideal for stop offs on trips to the west country.
We were pleased to be upgraded when we checked in but really thrilled when we actually saw out rooms..............fantastic!! Rooms 1 and 11. It made a chance weekend break into a lovely mini break holiday.
The staff were all excelent. We didn't eat at the hotel as we had already booked a meal out but the breakfast was great, freshly cooked and whatever you wanted.

I had read the reviews before booking but the hotel exceeded our expectations in everyway. I have to say that six year old reviews left on the Trip Advisor site is very unfair to the current management. All establishments evolve over time and to leave on reviews that old that contribute to the overall score for a hotel is misleading. I think that a time limit of two years would give a much more up to date and accurate picture.

We could not fault this hotel, there is nothing more they could have done to make us feel welocome and we would definately love to stay again.
