“Winter in New Brighton”
Reviewed 15 February 2013

Went to a friends 60th party and stayed here with my wife and friends. The staff were very friendly and the food at both evening and at breakfast were excellent. The rooms were comfortable, with a brand new bathroom, which was cold. The bed was comfy if not a little small. Would recommend

Stayed here several times when visiting family in local area. Lovely period building with friendly, helpful staff. Bedroom very pleasant, clean bathroom. Food outstanding- both breakfast and dinner. Excellent all round. Highly recommended.

My daughter and son in law chose The Hollins Hey for there wedding reception. Lovely hotel very friendly accomodating staff couldn't do enough to make us feel comfortable.

Food was fabulous and we had lots of positive comments about the quality of the food and the portion size. Bar staff worked hard to look after all guests.

We had a fabulous family wedding and would recommend this hotel for to all.

Thank you to the management and his excellent staff.

We went to New Brighton for a long weekend and stayed at this Hotel. We really had a great time and the hotel was excellent. Bedrooms are large and well equipped as is the en-suite bathroom. We only booked in bed and breakfast but the breakfast was so good we decided to eat in for dinner and were not disappointed. Not a particularly large menu but what we had was excellent and the staff and owners are very attentive and nothing was to much trouble. This was our 3rd stay and we shall return as it is a great area to explore with lots of very good restaurants to try in the surrounding area. The hotel is only a couple of minuets from the underground which has an excellent service across the Wirral and out to Chester, Liverpool and Southport.

Room Tip: The room with a bath

The manager Bruno was exceptional. He welcomed us, put our tandem into safe storage for the night and was a key part of making this a stay that far exceeded our prior expectations. We were given room 2 which has a four poster bed, plenty of space and great views across the Mersey estuary. The room is next on the list for modernisation however it was perfectly comfortable as it is.

We decided to eat in and to have a drink at the bar, both served by the indefatigable Bruno and both excellent. Breakfast in the morning was good value, good quality and very friendly. Chatting to other residents we found a similar theme of pleasant surprise at how fantastic the place is and how much we'd like to visit again.

The hotel is a short distance from the prom which is now a great place for both cyclists and walkers. It is also near a Merseyrail station so travel into Liverpool is easy.

We stopped over at Hollins Hey mid-week for one night and had a very comfortable bedroom with a good sized en-suite bathroom, all spotlessly clean. The menu for the evening meal had a good choice and the food we had was beautifully presented and delicious to taste. Crisp white table linen and a spacious dining room all added to the experience of a very enjoyable leisurely meal with good wine.

We were visiting New Brighton this weekend to watch the Tall Ships from Liverpool. I booked the hotel on the internet.I do wish I had called the Hotel to book direct as we arrived just after the Bride and Groom for a wedding reception. It seems this is now a popular venue for weddings, but not so good if you are not attending the wedding. We were allocated a room on the second floor well away from the disco noise which did not disturb us unduly. The room itself was clean and well appointed with a view across the Mersey Estuary to Liverpool docks. The bathroom was very compact but really clean and recently refurbished but the look of it. The decor in the room was in keeping with the style of the Victorian building, although the sloping ceiling was a bit of a 'head bumping hazard'. There was no Hotel Information Folder, in fact when I asked as we booked in, the Manager seemed suprised that I should ask about such a thing. He made no mention of us eating in the restaurant on Saturday evening, so we had supper in New Brighton, which has been developed and much improved since our last visit to the area. Because the internet booking did not include breakfast we decided to do the same for breakfast on Sunday morning. I'm sure we were much more comfortable than sitting in the hotel dining room where I have a feeling we would be the only overnight guests who were not at the wedding. I'm sure if we had stayed on a weekend when there was no wedding we would have had a more positive experience. I understand that Weddings are a good way for a hotel to make a living and reviews on this site seem to be very positive about them, but just be aware that if you are not going to the wedding then you may not have the very best experience.

Room Tip: Room 11 has a good view but a sloping ceiling as it is on the top floor. Bumping your head is a very...
