“A building of great historic importance”
Review of Fort Perch Rock

Fort Perch Rock
Reviewed 23 November 2013

The fort in New Brighton, Wirral is very interesting in as much as you can walk around and still see some of the old marine equipment and how the building was used during the world wars. Positioned right by the side of the River Mersey.

We visited the fort as it had some good reviews on trip advisor.

However when we paid our entrance fee (ok on £3 a person) we were not told that the majority of the fort was off limits.

The exhibit about the Theti submarine was very moving, however we were disappointed with the 2 remaining exhibits that were open.

Perhaps it may be better to visit it high season

If you want a good view of Liverpool & the Mersey river, then this area is excellent. There is plenty of car parking places, & New Brighton itself has been improved dramatically during the last 2 years

Considering I live within 20 minutes drive the history that is held in this fortification is interesting and dates back. It clean and tidy with car parking.
Children would love it as the beach is free to play on once finished

I agree with some of the other reviewers that this place is a bit run down and old fashioned.
However, this is part of its charm.
My kids (7 and 4) found it fascinating: they really enjoyed the radio room and using morse code.
It shows what a unique place The Wirral/Liverpool was over the last 200 years.
The entry fee was about right for the time we were there but as other reviewers have said it does need a refurbishment as there is lots of areas closed off that would be converted.
Glad that it has not been demolished like the lido and was being enjoyed by young kids.
