“what a great surprise!”
Reviewed 2 October 2013

Visited here last night on a research trip as wanting to see if it would be a good place to have an informal 18th birthday Sunday lunch, excellent! book because it was full on a Tuesday night. I had the assiette of seafood and parents had duck and rib eye steak. All were of the highest quality, extremely well cooked, piping hot and locally sourced!

Service was excellent and the atmosphere really friendly and inviting. The location is lovely next to the river, so have booked not just for Sunday lunch, but parents have booked for New Year as well. Will now be a regular visitor!

I'v eaten here several times in the past few months, and can honestly say the food really is good. I've found it probably the best place to eat in Bewdley. Prices are reasonable, although when it's busy, service can take some time. it's really nice to eat at one of the table on the river frontage.

Stayed at The Mug House en route to Birmingham Airport last week. We'd stayed here before and were sufficiently impressed to return and bring with us the two friends we were holidaying with. Only a few yards from the River Severn the pub is in a really nice position with no traffic passing the door and consequently no noise. The bar area is quite small but well laid out with a comfortable "snug" seating area where we relaxed with a drink before being shown to our rooms. There is a good selection of local real ales on offer and the wine list is sensibly priced.
Moving on to the accommodation, we had the Rose Room which is spacious, with a comfortable four poster bed and views across the river. Very clean, decent bathroom with shower over bath, All good so far.
We had supper in the Angry Chef Restaurant which is just off the bar. Small, intimate and well laid out. The food was very good indeed and the waiting staff were friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. We all enjoyed our meal immensely. Everything still well up to standard.
After a good night's sleep we ventured downstairs to breakfast. Our previous experiences of breakfast at The Mug House have been excellent. Something went wrong on this occasion. Two of us took only a light breakfast, fruit, cold meats, croissants etc and had no complaints at all but the other two went for the cooked option which was a bit of a disaster. My wife proclaimed the scrambled egg inedible and although our friend ploughed manfully through his being a man who hates to be beaten, it was clear that his was not up to scratch either. I discussed this with the owner at check out who was aware he had a problem and apologised profusely, assuring me he was in the process of resolving it. I am prepared to take this at face value and will certainly stay again if we are in the area.

Room Tip: The Rose Room is our favourite.

Position of the Mug House Inn lovely. Made very welcome and and nice clean rooms. Great restaurant and good breakfast. Good value for money. If we visit this area again we would definitely stay there again. The steam train stopping here was an added bonus and we thoroughly enjoyed it

Stayed here for 2 nights with some friends as we where fishing on the river Severn. We stayed in the cottage part which adjoins the pub. I stayed in the front downstairs twin room which was lovely and clean and very spacious (had little teddies waiting for us on the beds). No real issues with the room, but.... We could hear loads of noise from the drinking public as they stood right outside the room, in front of the pub by the side of he river. This went on till the early hours. If you sleep on the front, take you ear plugs.
Pub wise, the food and drink was excellent! Really enjoyed the BBQ at night and the burger was one of the best I have ever tasted.
The landlord was a really nice chap and was really helpful with local tourist information.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room at the back! If you get one at the front, take some earplugs!

Very clean. Cosy rooms with a country feel. Wake up to the ducks and swans on the Severn and a really good breakfast. Ideal for fishing trips there are many occasions when the pub garden accommodates music and has a good burger and salad bar. Just along the quayside is plenty if free parking for overnight stayers. It's a good weekend stay in a very nice little Georgian town in the heart of Worcestershire

Stayed at Mug House Inn one night. Lovely room (actually a suite with a separate sitting area). Good furnishings and a very comfortable large double bed. It was lovely to have a fridge in the room and fresh milk, much appreciated.
The inn is in a lovely position overlooking the River Severn. No parking but for a £10 deposit you get a pass for the public car park approx. 50 metres away.
As we stayed during a hot period of the summer we worried that we would be disturbed by the numerous people sitting outside the inn but lights were switched off and noise stopped by about 11.15pm. We slept soundly and were woken the next morning by the noisy geese and ducks on the river!
A fantastic breakfast set us up well the next morning for our journey home.
Well worth a visit and we will definitely return

Room Tip: We stayed in the Daffodil room
