“Will definitely not go again!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 June 2014

I totally agree with the review from ‘Guru of Travel’. A bad experience overall and the first time I have ever left a restaurant feeling hungry.
Pre-dinner:
Had to ask to be served to drinks
Had to ask twice for the menu
Seating:
Eventually shown to a wobbly table for 8 in a cold annexe room
Heating only put on when we were being seated
Unused chairs stacked up in the corner of the room
Service:
Table booked for 7.30pm, arrived at 7.15pm and it was 8.30pm before first course was served
Other diners seated later were served before us
Complimentary breads served due to lateness – too late as starter had then been served
Two bottles of wine dumped on the table unopened with no attempt to serve
Coffee for two people (either side of the large table) dumped in the middle without being served
No waiter asked if everything was alright or if we were happy with the meal
Food:
Small, tasteless portions. An attempt at upmarket dining but without the quality
Expensive for what it was
Finally:
I had to go and ask for the bill
Waiters worked hard but were poorly trained and lacked experience
A birthday meal for a colleague was spoilt by such a poor dining experience

Room Tip: Restaurant experience only

Oh dear. This is clearly not good enough. I am in the process of trying to find out what on earth happened and with whom. We work hard to manage situations well and to take criticism on the chin. It keeps us humble and means we are listening. There was clearly a systemic failure here - so please accept our sincere apologies.

Just come back from a very enjoyable two night stay at The Granary Hotel. The food was excellent, great choice and all freshly cooked to order, certainly couldn't fault it in any way. Lovely friendly greeting when we arrived at reception and they were always very helpful. Rooms clean and very nice only thing they did lack the little touches like toiletries and paper hankies but that is just being picky really. Lovely patio, gardens with seating. Would certainly go back if we were in the area. Highly recommend this Hotel.

Room Tip: Uneven numbered rooms have the best views. All rooms very quiet.

Many thanks for your commentary - it is much appreciated. If you get a chance to come back, come and see how our vineyard is coming on. It was planted the week before your visit. Kind regards

The whole experience was brilliant. Service, food etc we could not fault it. My husband and I had the set menu and the asparagus risotto and shoulder of lamb were both delicious. The lavender cheesecake was to die for. Would definitely recommend if you like your food experience. We will be back.

We had our wedding here on 10 May 2014. It was amazing from start to finish. Allot of guests stayed as we did on the Friday as well as the Saturday. Warm and friendly staff, lovely accommodation, fabulous food and a gorgeous setting. The day was perfect and very well organised. Jo Burgess our wedding planner has been very helpful and professional all the way. Laura looked after us on the day and everything was perfect. I cannot thank them enough. Allot of our guests commented on the venue and how well we had done finding this place. This was the best day of our lives. Thanks to all of the staff at The Granary for making our day.

OK,Where shall i start ?
There is no downside for this restaurant that i can state apart from the fact that they need a bit more room for customers to lay their plates on whilst helping themselves to the food at the Carvery....
The food is `EXCELLANT`
A choice of just two meats on a `Monday` but wonderfully cooked and the Vegetables are to die for.Carrots,Parsnips, cabbage, peas,Cauliflower and broccoli cheese along with minted new potatoes, roast potatoes are just `Moreish`,and the stuffing is nice and crispy on the outside yet smooth on the inside and in little balls.
Until now our favorite place for a sunday carvery was the `Island Pool` but now we have a `New Favorite.
Also ,you get to collects points on a reward card for every pound spent to use again later.
They have only this month started to do a carvery on a monday as a trial but as the manager said today...that period is to be extended.
Get yourself down there and enjoy.
ps,The staff are very helpful.

Thank you so much for your kind words. The Granary has been serving Carvery lunches for nearly 35 years and by now we should know what we are doing. But beware the demon of complacency at your peril as it will always hit you round the back of the head!
So we avoid complacency and hopefully strive each day. Thank you again and hope to see you soon.

We dined with friends last night at The Granary Restaurant, and we wanted to leave a review as we really did have an excellence evening....the food was very very good both in terms of choice and the standard. We will definitely revisit.

Stayed here overnight on business. The hotel is average, I stayed in one of the rooms in an Annex just off the main building. Room was facing the car park and ground floor so not much privacy and a little vulnerable for a woman travelling on her own. The rooms are comfy, however would have preferred a mug rather than a little cup to have my tea in after a hard day at work.

The hotel had a function on in the evening so didn't eat in the hotel but did go in for breakfast. The service was incredibly slow and also took time to bring tea and coffee, no self service. I ordered my breakfast which came with mushrooms which I didn't order (as I don't like mushrooms).

There is no where to go once you get to the hotel, a little out of the way, however it is set in some lovely grounds.

Thank you for your comments. I agree about the mugs vs cups debate. At home I have never drunk out of a cup in my life so it is a curious convention. I am sorry you did not eat in as the function would not have impinged on you. Point taken regarding breakfast as we appreciate that many people are in a hurry. Training session scheduled. All these things make a difference and we do listen.
