Description: The Black Star is a beautiful canal side public house recently acquired by wye valley brewery and undergone complete refurbishment to include open plan dining, log burning fires and an extensive outside paved area with seating and heating. The new pub offers great ales and great traditional pub food hosted by a very experienced couple from hereford who are Andrew and Maria Gooding, they also have two Labradors roaming around at various times who are very welcoming and they encourage other dog owners to come in and relax.

My wife and I called in Monday lunchtime at 12.30 hours. The outside appearance and decor inside looked fresh and pleasant. The pub is situated alongside the canal and has outside tables and chairs. So far so good. The downside was that we were the only customers.

There is Doombar real ale on offer and having sampled a pint I can confirm it is well-kept.

The only food on offer were three meals in a basket all priced at £5.

My wife's visit to the Ladies Loo was a disaster. Bins not emptied, dirty and toilet paper on the floor. This was totally unacceptable at any time but half an hour after opening and no other customers - need I say more!

We left to seek lunch elsewhere.

“Beautifully Restored, Good Food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 November 2013 via mobile

This canalside pub has been beautifully restored and is a cozy and warm place to settle with drinks and good food. A guest and I had the sausage trio and black pudding sausages and good drinks - all served by a jovial and friendly waitress. Good atmosphere.

“excellent value and friendliness”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 October 2013

visited Black Star while staying two nights in Stourport. Staff very friendly and prices reasonable. We had a meal and it was excellent value for money. I had lasagne and chips with salad - obviously home made and delcious. Cost was only £4.95 and there was more than enough. Hubby had the Pride of Stourport which consisted of mash, veg and two very large sausages. Again, less than £5.00 and plenty on the plate. Would definitely recommend this pub for all the right reasons.
