Never been here before, found the menu unusual but very nice, things I had not heard of before, a bit pricy but the quality of food was excellent

“Penny pinching.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2014

I have had lunch twice at this place. The first was just about ok. I made allowance because it was a very busy Saturday. Then we went back one Wednesday when it was a lot quieter.
I have to tell you that the food was just about passable but noticed that they penny pinch and do not give you value for money.. The filling of my sandwich was ok in the middle where one tends to look, but open up the sandwich there was nothing at all round the edges not even butter. My friend had a toasted sandwich and that fill was almost none existent... Do they think we are daft or something they had pasta chicken salad for special and it was cold. horrible...well also the coffee the worst of all just tasted like bitter water with watered down milk in it... Not the way to make a business Success in my opinion... Would not recommend..

“Late lunch at the Barista”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

Have been calling at the Barista for a late lunch after a shopping trip with my friend for about 2 years now and the service and food has always been excellent. The choice is good and the prices are reasonable with plenty on your plate. We only found it by chance as we usually went elsewhere but I am so glad we did. We don't even think of going anywhere else but head there every time we are in Bury.

“overall disappointment”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 May 2014

This is the second visit.
The first was fine.We had Eggs Benedict and enjoyed it so we thought "rainy day dive in again and repeat the experience"
We had sandwiches and soup at £6.40 each. The soup was in an arty bowl which was miniscule which was not enough to feed a kitten (if they eat soup that is). The sarnies were doughy and FULL of mayo and made us slightly queezy.

The toilet is a strange affair with men, women and changing facilties in the one cubicle opening straight out into the restaurant...not nice.
As we walked through the market we noticed that people were eating in the little cafes and they were full while Barista was empty.....I now know why. £17 for 2 sandswiches, coffee and soup which were of poor quality is a heck of a lot.
I would say to people give this a swerve.

On the plus side the staff are friendly and it is not their fault the prices are set at such a high level for a working class town. Last visit for us. It's the inside market next time.

“Little Gem of a place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2014 via mobile

Great spot in the centre of Bury, when the sun's put they open the glass doors and can sit alfresco in decent solid and comfortable chairs not flimsy rubbish! Really friendly staff, great service and foods wonderful too. Reasonably priced, good variety. After going to a well known restaurant for years but finding it gets ridiculously busy and cramped this is a new fave. :)
