Owner description: Located in Bury, just 30 minutes from Manchester City Centre, is the award-winning East Lancashire Railway. A heritage railway that runs steam and diesel train services through the beautiful Pennine Lancashire scenery. There are plenty of things to see and do and stations are well equipped for group visits with cafes, pubs, gift shops and a dedicated Transport Museum, housing vintage vehicles, transport memorabilia and interactive exhibits. Guided tours and talks are also available. The railway also has some fantastic events scheduled throughout the year from guided Rail Ale Trail tours of some of the excellent local drinking spots to the nostalgia of their award winning 1940's weekend. Looking for something a little different? Why not indulge in a luxury steam train hauled dining experience on board Orient Express style carriages, learn to drive a train or get snap happy with a Photography Course?

The atmosphere of the station, the steam and diesel trains plus the fantastic range of ales makes the best place in Bury.

Excellent experience, the station was very atmospheric with smoke, music and ghoulish characters. On board the actors were in character for the journey scaring the passengers or making them laugh. We were entertained in our carriage by two friendly witches ‍♀️ for the whole journey they were extremely funny and witty. Highly recommend. The only thing I would have added to the experience for a little more atmosphere on board would have been music and ghostly sound through a tannoy.

we attended a "allo allo" themed dinner evening at the East Lancs Railway, Fab entertainment and the Table d'Hôte dinner was superb. Cant fault the experience & recommend highly. Great choice of Micro Brewery ales on aoffer at the station buffet too! Happy days :)

Fantastic evening on the Halloween train with my 10 year old daughter. The train station was decorated very spooky with refreshments available at normal cost.
We were joined in the carriages by numerous great actors who entertained us throughout the longer than expected journey. Well worth a visit, definately going back next year

It's good to see a preserved line paying tribute to the sometimes maligned DMU. The DMU played in a vital part in keeping many branch lines open . The ELR event gave a enthralling weekend of movement using these charactful units, my friends enjoyed our visit and will look forward to another visit in due course. The only downside was a ( grumpy old sod) elderly volunteer on a walking stick who could do with some customer care training when asked about the class 117 being in service replied it's locked out of service , so you won't get a ride , even though it was being unlocked. But there's always one !
