Butterfly Guest House
Ranked #3 of 7 Stockport B&B and Inns
Reviewed 27 October 2012

We booked three rooms at the Butterfly Guest House for the night prior to our departure from Manchester Airport, and we found the accommodation adequate and affordable. Our two Canadian country girls were startled to glance out of their second story bedroom window and see a double decker bus appearing to head directly for them, and we all noticed the close proximity to urban traffic, however, we enjoyed a clean, comfortable stay, and appreciated the somewhat awkward but secure on-site parking. Our adult son stayed in one room, our adult daughter and her friend occupied a room adjoining it, and we all shared a bathroom, although our double room across the hall did have an in-suite shower and vanity. Our hosts were genial and provided helpful information about where NOT to eat when we enquired about a certain establishment, although we had some difficulty following their directions to a more promising area so we successfully resorted to the internet for a recommendation and directions to a good (if crowded and very noisy) pub. As we knew we'd be checking out very early, we chose the option of a continental breakfast which was delivered to our rooms that evening while we were out, and would have nicely complimented the in-room tea and coffee—had we the time next morning to sit down and enjoy it or the ability to carry it with us. Just before turning in we realised we had underestimated the time we would require to return our rental vehicle and check in for our flight to Frankfurt, so we had to get up and go far too early and quickly to avail of food. :( While the location is not somewhere we would stay longer, it is ideal for travellers, especially groups such as ours, and a night's stay is very good value for money.

Right, first thing first, this is bed and breakfast first and foremost. A good one.

We spent 3 days here in May and found it to be a good base to get about Cheshire and South Manchester. The double room was a good size, had an enquite and even had its own lounge area- I understand this bit is normally rented out as a flat but they were booked up on arrival so we were put in that. The room was very modern and very clean. The lady that owns it is in her 70s and was a cleanaholic always seen with a pair or rubber gloves and a brush in her hands! This place is well maintained and nothing seemed too much trouble for her and she was always happy to give directions for the buses when asked.

There are bus stops located a 2 mins away that go into Stockport, Manchester and Wilmslow and a train stop a 15 min walk away. Seems easy enough to find the M60 motorway too so overall in terms of accessibility it is very good.

Breakfast was a full English and was very nice too! One day we were out very early so the owner made us a packed lunch instead which was nice of her. There is a pub/restaurant 2 mins away on foot which serves food all day and is very nice but a bit pricey.

Price wise this place is very reasonable for what it is and seems cheaper than others in the area.

This place left a good taste in our mouths and is run by seemingly genuine people who seem to care about their guests. If you are on a budget and looking for a clean guest house in a good location, we would certainly recommend it. The owners are lovely people and we would have no hesitation in staying again.

Room Tip: Ask for "the flat" if there are 2 of you its a bit more but well worth it for what it is.

I have ticked average because very good would be over the top. Good would be about right.
This is a straight forward b&b - good room rates (cheap really), comfy beds, good breakfast.
It has illuminous pink window nets and they are slightly obsessed with butterflies and lace doilies. But if what you want from a b&b is a place to rest your head when you are in the area for a family get together or some other function then this will do just fine.
We always put our extended family in here because the cost is more than reasonable and we know they will get a better nights sleep than on the sofa bed! The owners are lovely and they always welcome back past guests.

Room Tip: They do twin and double rooms - just ask
