Read the reviews but somehow still disappointed. It is basically very run down. May have been very good at one point and you see hints of it now and again but it isn't anymore. The only thing that is stopping me give it one star is that it is ridiculously cheap to stay. Family room however is laughable, it obviously a normal room with 2 extra single beds squashed in. Wish I'd paid more but if you want cheap its for you

we stayed here for 2 nights as part of a tour to coronation street, was aprehensive as i had read some of the reviews on here, but could not fault it. For what we paid, we had excellent value for money.Room was clean, bed comfy, yes the tv is old style, but i did not go to watch tv.We had clean towels daily, food was good, all you could eat breakfast, 3 course dinner.i do not know what some people expect, for the price it was excellent.

Room Tip: we had room 9,was pleasantly quiet and very comfy.Although it overlooked the car park, i did not exp...

I have just got back from a two night stay at the Britannia stockport with my family that we booked with through just go holidays for a coronation st tour. After looking at the reviews i wasn't looking forward to our stay but i think that some of the reviews were a little harsh. We had two rooms on separate floors and were pleasantly surprised. Yes the hotel is dated but you can see it must of been very grand in its day with beautiful art work on the ceilings in the reception and bar area. We had a warm welcome by staff. Our room had had an obvious leak through the ceiling at one point as it was stained but the room was clean and the bed and bedding had crisp white sheets with what looked like new pillows and quilt. My moms room had quite dated bedside cabinates but they were clean so not a problem. The food was plentiful.

Room Tip: We were on the 1st floor over looking the car park, it was fine no noise.

This place is a disgrace as I have already mentioned in my other review. Even locals know how bad this place is, I guess it used to be a youth detention in the 1900's. We had to stay there for 3 nights while looking for a house in Stockport, the city had many weddings going on at the time and all hotels were fully booked (hard to believe), off course the only one that available was "Britannia". I have to admit I was afraid to stay there, but I had no other option! The only good thing about this place was leaving. The whole place is just depressing from the moment you enter it, you can't wait to leave again. It makes me wonder if those good reviews were from people that work there or travelers with a very, very low standards when it comes to accommodation. There is no way in hell that this hotel deserve 2 stars +. There is no Wifi in the rooms, the walls are dirty, filthy old carpets, disgusting bathrooms, noises from slamming heavy room doors, flickering lights as you walk through the "creepy hallway", broken elevator, old tube TV with no remote control and only 2 channels barely working. Fire alarm at 2:30am, 3am, 3:20am, 4am and almost every night for the 3 dreadful nights we spent there !!!!! You will hear EVERYTHING from the room next to you (paper thin walls). Drunks everywhere specially on weekends. Unfortunately, the only night that the alarm didn't go off, the room next to us had at least 6 people in it, all drunk, screaming, laughing loud, slamming doors and running in the hallways with no clothes on! It is true that drunks are everywhere in Stockport , but the old drunks love to spend they evening at this hotel bar specially on weekends. Noisy cleaners, Good luck if you decide to stay there!

Have just stayed here for 2 nights as part of a trip with Justgoholidays to pay a last visit to thye set of Coronation Street in Manchester .Hotel Staff were friendly .and food was plenty full .The room we had was looking tired with some bad marks on carpet and beds not over comfortable The room was clean .it looks like some parts of the hotel are being decorated as we had guys doing electrical work I think in the hall way close to our room .After reading other peoples views it is a little off putting .
it was a busy hotel so things must be good .....but not really on our visit.

Room Tip: not sure if other rooms might have been already decorated .we were in room 114.And to use wifi you...

My overall impression of that hotel is a stop at the door and walk away. Every other review is spot on. I would not even let my dog sleep there! Only one member off staff is worth a mention and that was a gentleman named Graham, whom was very polite and helpful. The only one positive review I have!!
