After a long day on the canal we were advised to call in we arrived at 6.45 only to be told that the kitchen was closed they had run out of food this was a bank holiday weekend also when we went to get served they served the locals ahead of us blatantly ignoring us standing at the bar
Will not be calling there or indeed recomending to people on this route

Called at 7pm on bank holiday monday only to be told they had stopped serving.tglhey had just served other customers in bar and outside. We booked a taxi to find somewhere else and decided to have a drink while waiting.my wife stood at the bar whist the bar staff were chatting and serving locals.there were 5 in our group and another couple also called to eat.they obviously don,t need custom so i won,t call again

The Boars Head pies are honestly as good if not better than the reviews suggest. He who discovers the secret of the minced beef & onion and cheese & onion pies will be worthy of a king's ransom. The accompanying gorgeous veg and sublime "Boars Gravy" completes the magical dishes. The real ale is just as good too. Just don't expect fine dining ambience here as it is a typical "country bumkin Cheshire PUB" - This is, however, THE pub to visit for a hearty fill after a long trek or Bike Rode along the adjoining Middle Wood Way. Go enjoy!

We met some friends here for a meal and found it to be warm, friendly and nicely presented.
We’d already booked a table and it turned out to have been a good idea because they were fully booked. I now know why..... great food
The pub is situated close to quite a few visiter attractions including the Macclesfield Canal.
One of our party needed a gluten free meal and whilst the venue didn’t cater for this, the staff made workarounds and succeeded in providing a meal that ticked the boxes
We all enjoyed a good meal and we wouldn’t hesitate to return in the future
We had 4 meals, 4 & 1/2 pints lager and a white wine, cost £65 not bad considering the quality
There’s an open fire that gave the place a homely feel and the staff were very attentive.
I love pie but never sure what it’ll be like, i.e. fatty or grizzle etc. I had the curry but after seeing what my wife had, (she had pie) I wanted that, she wouldn’t swap, miserable sod! It looked good and she said it was good too
When we arrived my wife made a quip that I had a fat belly, well it’s fatter now, but so is she.

A group of walkers with cold hands needed lunch, and the Boars Head was the right place. The lunch menu with sandwiches, soup and baked potatoes was just right for us, with generous portions, chips and side salad, and friendly service in the snug (muddy boots. Sport was on both TVs but not intrusively. Dogs were in the bar, but well behaved. The only downside - sachets that cold hands, warm hands or otherwise, could not open for ketchup! The staff heeded our plea for pots of mayonnaise and ketchup. All worked out well.
