I stayed here for business purposes and wanted a place with a gym so suggested the Britannia to my work's travel booking folk and they refused to use it as it was apparently rated one of the worst hotels of 2007.....so didn't hold out much hope for anything in Stockport. When I came into view of the Old Rectory, I had hope that there may be an oasis here.....and was not disappointed. The pub was lovely, friendly and cosy - with decently priced meals and drinks. My room in the main part of the hotel was big, clean and contemporary. I had never stayed in a Premier Travel Inn before and was impressed with the Bed (With Throw/Runner that match the curtains and the cushioned headboard that I would never normally expect in such a place) and Decor. Staff were helpful and I would recommend if you ever needed a pleasant place to stay in Stockport.

Had to visit the Manchester area recently and in general Premier Travel Inns are a good value place to stay, especially if you are arriving at 2am.

Great welcome by the guy on duty overnight, told me to park the car closer to the entrance for better security and informed me about Premier Travel Inns Guarantee (money back if service not good).

Room was fine, a bit dated but clean, welcome and comfortable after a long drive from London.

Next morning seemed to be a wholly different story. Breakfast was in the neighbouring pub (a converted rectory). I asked for their healthy breakfast option - porridge. People who know me are aware that this ia a key test for me "can they make porridge properly?"

Premier Travel Inn Stockport East delivered bad porridge - as well as being lumpy, the remainder was horribly liquidy and milky. Unfortunately, I could not catch the eye of the single waitress who seemed to have no concept of "working the breakfast room" i.e looking for customers who had finished, who had problems etc. Her function seemed to be "meet, take orders and serve" that's it. No follow-up.

So, a promising start let down by a rubbish breakfast - one to avoid I think for that reason alone.

Stayed at the premier travel inn (Stockport East, aka the old rectory) for a weekend stopover to visit family.

The hotel is cheap (£53) and accommodation comprises a modern building as well as an older, but re-fitted annex. Room was large and airy, slightly musty on arrival, but that cleared up. Nice big bed, wifi access, clean and tidy en-suite bathroom and ample storage space.

There are breakfast / evening meals available in the restaurant / pub next door at reasonable prices and the staff were very courteous. We didn't actually eat there, but the food looked good enough.

It is about a kilometre from the station and not really near anything else, but the city centre is a short stroll down the hill.

Having looked at the traveller reviews of the other hotels available in Stockport, I felt compelled to submit this review because I was born in bred in Stockport and find it embarrassing that there don't seem to be any quality hotels on offer. This hotel wasn't "quality" as such, hardly the place for a romantic escape, but as a stop over visiting the area, it is fantastic.
