We enjoyed our stay at Alma Lodge. Staff were friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable. We were surprised that there was no in-room safe and that the heated towel rail in the bathroom could not be switched off, as it was part of the hot water system, making the bathroom very hot. We were also surprised that the hotel did not have a lift (though stairs are not a problem for us, and we were offered help with our luggage).

As it was very hot, we sent an email before our arrival requesting a fan; it was in our room when we checked in. We were very pleased that we were allocated a north-facing room, so we never had direct sun into the room.

Breakfast was good; we did not eat other meals in the hotel.

Dear guest thank you for your review, we are delighted that you have chosen the Alma Lodge Hotel for your visit to Stockport. We were happy to learn that you enjoyed your stay with us and felt you received good customer service and value for money.
During the recent hot spell, we had ensured all bedrooms had fans for our customers added comfort, we will endeavour to provide fans as standard in all rooms. The heated towel rail in your bathroom is as you mentioned part of the hot water system so is very effective during the cooler weather. Any rooms that have recently been refurbished no longer use this system, if you are to stay again please request a superior or refurbished room. Thank you again for your business we hope to see you again.
Kind regards Jill Tavini

We booked a last minute two night stay, and really didn't expect to find the hotel as nice as it was. Reception staff, in particular Ann, were all as friendly, welcoming and helpful as one would hope to encounter at a reception desk. The room had clearly been recently refurbished, was perfectly clean and well presented, and the bathroom was spotlessly clean with loads of towels. The beds were very comfortable with good quality pillows and yes it was tremendously hot but not the hotel's fault, who provided a fan within minutes of our request thankfully no discernible noise from the surrounding rooms, which were all occupied. There were three events on the first night, and we did struggle to park as we arrived around 20:00, we were also concerned about the noise, but our room was away from the main areas and we were not affected by the noise at all, which in any case finished, as advertised, at 00.30 on the dot. The breakfast was excellent, quality, quantity and choice. Each member of staff we encountered were friendly and helpful.
The designated smoking area was actually quite welcoming, which was unexpected and quite a pleasant place to sit in the cool of the evening.
Only one very minor niggle was that we hadn't spotted on the menu that lunches on a saturday had to be ordered in the morning - which led to a hasty rethink, and a lovely picnic in Lyme Park, so not that great a problem really!
Definitely recommend the hotel.

Room tip: Rooms away from the events facilities are definitely quieter

Booked online over 6 weeks in advance and I was immediately contacted by the hotel telling me thaon my 1st night there was going to be a large event that might be noisy, and would I like to upgrade fom my £45 room to a £55 room to be further away from the noise. Nice touch but I decided to risk it and didn't bother. When I checked in, I found that they had upgraded me free of charge for the whole week! What a great surprise.
I was staying 5 nights and it was the hottest week of the year. Even though the window opened very wide, it was difficult to get any fresh air moving in the room. On my 2nd night, without asking, a fan arrived, making my sleep more comfortable from then on.
When I booked, it said that there were no meals included, but I decided to ask at reception. To my surprise, they said that breakfast was included. Another surprise. I wouldn't have eaten there if it hadn't been included because they charge a hefty £9 for breakfast.
All in all, though not the most modern hotel I've stayed in, this made for a pleasant week and, as a result of all these "extras", I heartily recommend the Alma Lodge.

Room tip: The event was a Singles Night and happens on the 1st Sunday of every month. It was noisy till after midnight.

My first impression of the hotel wasn't the best. The girl at the reception was perfectly polite and nice, but didn't give me any info. about my stay. I ended up having to ask 5+ questions which they usually just tell you. She didn't tell me what time dinner was, or breakfast, she didn't mention the wifi, I asked for a taxi number and she gave me an incorrect number so I just had to google it in the end. It could have been much worse, but it was an annoying start.

The room was lovely and I was particularly happy to find an electric fan in the wardrobe as it was very hot. The bathroom was also very nice.

I found that whenever someone left their room next door or opposite, it sounded as if someone was banging on my door with a fist. Very noisy slams.

I would definitely stay there again.
