What really sets this place apart from the crowd is the level of service which is exemplary in all aspects; warm, friendly & professional. From the moment we arrived to our departure some 4 hours later we were made to feel welcome & treated like kings ! The combination of the setting, the fantastic food & the attention to detail make this a supreme dining experience & definitely in my top 2 best of restaurants !
A big thank you to all at the Waterside Inn for making our anniversary celebration so special.

Our expectations weren't met unfortunately

We were escorted to our table by a friendly member of staff. Our table was located in the back of the dinner area, directly next to the entrance, far away from to the nice window overlooking the river. The menus were handed to us by another, again friendly, member of staff. An appetizer was brought in by someone else again. Within the first 10 minutes we've had at least 5 different people at our table.

Directly behind our table was the central area for the staff where they parked the bread baskets etc., it was a little bit of a beehive close to our table.

We chose the surprise menu with wine pairing. The food was lovely, the wines were good, I can't fault this on any level, but yet, at the end of the evening, I was left with a disappointed feeling.

My husband and I have had dinner in many nice restaurants around the world, we were really looking forward to this night as we had high expectations. For us, a dinner like this is not only about the food, it's the whole experience, the atmosphere, an opportunity to catch up with each other and / or friends. I felt rushed all night, mainly because the atmosphere around our table was so busy, people walking in and out continuously. Because the numerous members of staff serving us, we felt interrupted a lot.

Overall, the night wasn't as expected. Though I can't fault the food or the (numerous) members of staff, for the money spent on this evening, I want everything to be right.

This was our last meal on a lengthy trip to the UK and cost a fortune but every penny was worth it.
We have eaten in a number of three star Michelin restaurants and found this one to have both superb food but also to be extremely welcoming. The last three star Michelin we ate in in France had good food but it was stuffy and pretentious and we were made to feel very much like nightly grist for the necessary dessimiation of tasting plates. At the Waterside Inn, a number of members of the staff talked to us at some length during our dinner and we were made to feel most welcome, like we were the most important people in the room (even though we clearly were not given some of the clientele). We found this welcoming aspect the most essential attribute of a restaurant truly deserving of the three stars. Michel Roux himself actually greeted us when we arrived and wished us well at the end of the evening. Such personal attention makes the whole theatre of the three star event seem so much more special.
The setting of the restaurant is on the banks of the Thames and the diners can watch boats slowly drift by the meandering river with the swans while enjoying a drink before dinner or when eating in the restaurant. It is a truly lovely setting.
The food defies explanation with words. The meal started with an amazing little amuse bouche which left us craving for more. We knew the rest of the meal was going to be very special and it certainly was.
If you get to eat in one three star Michelin in your lifetime, this would be a good one to use for the experience. Oddly enough, even though it was the most expensive meal we had on our trip, it was better value than a number of one star Michelins which offered both a cuisine and dining experience that was only slightly less expensive but no where near the calibre.

Our third visit in as many years and still this place captures our excitement for food.

We have always stayed overnight at The Waterside Inn, with daughters being housed within the main building and us acquiring a suite in one of the cottages on the River. Arrival at 4pm and treat ourselves to a luxurious bath before heading down to the summer house and pier for pre-dinner drinks and canapés whilst leisurely browsing the menu's.

The whole atmosphere provided by Alain Roux, Diego Masicaga (Front of House) & Christophe was flawless and the food, let us not forget the food was once again sublime and matched perfectly with the bottle of Sauvignon Blanc & Pinot Noir picked by the Sommelier.

In the morning, the family gathered in the Summer House for a beautiful French continental style breakfast before departing on our travels.

Thank you once again and we will see you all again very soon.
