We had a lovely meal, with good service and a lively atmosphere. I was very pleasantly surprised at the bill too, very reasonable.

“Lovely, lively restaurant!”
Reviewed 10 January 2014

Been going here for many years now - one of our favourite restaurants - Lovely food, always served with a smile! Gets very busy Wednesdays and weekends so best to reserve a table.

“Very nice and as good as their sister restaurant, Shenai, Sandhurst”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

My husband and I joined some friends for a pre-Christmas meal as they were off to India for two months. We went on a Wednesday, which is banquet night - £12.95 a person plus drinks.

You get a starter, main, veg side, rice or naan side and coffee and mints for your money and they didn't disappoint.

The food was lovely as was the service I have noticed that Shenai and Kabir's dishes are generally spicier/hotter than other Indian restaurants, for instance I love my prawn puree and normally is nicely spiced and tangy but this was just mind blowingly hot. This has also happened with a couple of other dishes at Shenai. I'm not complaining as I am sure had I asked, they would have been happy to tone it down, it's just a warning if you like hot but not eyeball sweating hot!

Overall it was a lovely evening and I think it came to about £80 plus tip for the 4 of us but that included about 7-8 beers, a whiskey and a Tia Maria, so reasonably priced too. Their takeaway/normal prices are slightly higher than some of the other local Indian restaurants but they are good so I would say every now and then, it's worth it!

“Going downhill”
Reviewed 13 December 2013

We have been going to Kabirs since it opened about 20 years ago, and until recently we had only had one 'bad' experience when the food simply didn't seem to taste of anything.

However, on 2 recent visits, dishes which historically have been a 'medium' heat were unpleasantly spicy to a level where they were inedible to everyone in the party (including some of Asian origin). Portion sizes vary considerably from visit to visit (especially Veg and Rice) and on a regular basis only half of what is left over at the end of the meal finds its way into the 'doggy bags'. Kabirs is now quite expensive for what it is, so the least we should expect is to get to keep what we have paid for. We won't be going back anytime soon.

Try 'Chilli Spice' in Camberley as alternative - the ambiance leaves a bit to be desired (a bit clinical), but the food is quite good and about 10-15% cheaper than Kabirs is now. Their Banquet nights (Tuesday and Thursday) are an even better deal and also cheaper than 'Kabirs Night' on a Wednesday (although they get a bit funny about Doggy Bags on those nights).

“Warm welcome and excellent food”
Reviewed 12 December 2013

Went on a night out with 9 friends to Kabirs. Had heard a lot about it and was excited about going. Group had preordered special marinated lamb leg and then as usual over ordered everything else. Welcome was warm and friendly, just like being regulars,. Food was good and came promptly. Very good value with starters from £3.50. Mains excellent and good quality and quantity. Lamb was so tender that you could eat it with a spoon. Left very satisfied and will certainly be going back.
