Beautiful location in a beautiful small quiet village. Very friendly staff in bar who took our cases over to room 5. Very quiet and comfortable beds. Bathroom had fantastic double walk in shower, and lovely toiletries except no shower gel. We did ask but housekeeping said only shampoo. This and no bottled water were the only 2 things I could fault, hence the 4*s. The room was lovely and clean and had everything you needed. Great selection of tea and coffees in a beautiful box. Very relaxed about time to be at breakfast. Fantastic, as we're late risers. Had fantastic locally sourced produce at dinner. No processed food here. All 3 courses divine. Great nights sleep, and up to an all home cooked/ made breakfast. My home made muesli was beautiful. Best I've ever had. Fresh juice, home made bread and jams and marmalade. Checkout smooth and easy. All staff really friendly and lovely. Nothing too much trouble. Wish we could of stayed longer than 1 night. Went round their own bakery before we left and bought some things to take with us. Gorgeous. Am going back for the cookery course and stay over with another friend it was so good. Great base for HIGHCLERE CASTLE FANS.

Room tip: All on ground floor facing a lovely little courtyard. Good for people with mobility issues/wheelchair.

I didn't eat in the bar on this visit, but chose to have a coffee/cake at the end of a walk. The choices are immense, and though quiet when I called in, the waitress, (Julie) was very helpful on the area and was polite and courteous.

Served my choice with a smile and she was a friendly lady, definitely an asset to this business, wish there were more like her in small businesses.

Well done Julie.

Room tip: A lovely place to rest for a while.

Arrival - Location in beautiful village , rolling fields and gardens well maintained. Welcome greeting very friendly , showed to room and introduced to facilities. Very good start to this stay.

Room - Rooms were clean, boutique and comfortable overlooking lovely courtyard gardens. Very well thought out , only things missing were complimentary water and Shower Gel. Given the connected bakery an opportunity missed by not providing homemade welcome goods.

Evening Options - Pub/Dining room excellent decor. The staff were friendly, welcoming and professional , food was excellent ...good ingredients and dishes. It as a smaller menu but with a good selection , obviously dishes created from good local sourced food and the flavour combinations were excellent , thank you chefs !

Sleep - Good quality beds , personally would prefer softer top pillow as used to feather but I kept to one chunky pillow and slept soundly. The rooms were quiet and a good temperature.

Breakfast - Homemade Museli, homemade breads toasted ...the honey spelt and small seeded delighted us as we lathered homemade Jam or Marmalade on .....nothing better to sink teeth into !!

Departure - quick, easy and friendly.

Highlights/Top Tips - The joint venture with on site bakery and nearby cookery school made this extra special and the home baked goods we took away with us from the bakery were amazing.

Mobility - The rooms , pub, bakery are relatively flat and smooth , I personally could manage to push a wheelchair. Good walk in shower in our room and enough room near beds to move a wheelchair ....obviously not the sizes of a fully disabled room but adequate to manage. The shower probably would need some accessories depending on level of needs e.g. non slip mat, handle on side to hold , seat if cant stand at all. For the person I was with it was great but pls do speak to the owners for personal needs before booking.

We stayed here for one night as two couples and could not fault our stay at all. Newly refurbished rooms were individually designed and extremely well appointed with a lovely box with tea and coffee supplied. Bathrooms were fabulous with a walk in shower and supplied with all the toiletries you would need.

We ate in the restaurant - food was excellent, all locally sourced and good selection - chocolate mousse for desert was fabulous. Breakfast is served to you, there isn't a buffet which we found a nice touch. Unfortunately we were not up early enough to have fresh croissants from the bakery next door as breakfast on Sunday is served until 10.30am - another nice touch.

The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and I very much hope we can go back.

Extremely friendly and helpful waitress (Julie).
Delicious and unusual selection of cakes.
Superb croissants, which were still delicious the following morning for breakfast.
Altogether a great little find at the end of walking the Test Way (from Totton).
