“Great country pub”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 February 2014

Have been to this pub/restaurant several times and have always had a good night.
The food has always been excellent and very reasonably priced.
This time we went for a "Elvis" tribute night and although I'm not great Elvis fan I really enjoyed it and would recommend it .
Every time we've been to pub there has always been a nice atmosphere ,so if you fancy a traditional country pub in a beautiful village location then give this place a visit.

Booked as a couple for a Saturday night here. This place has a great traditional country pub feel, and there is a cozy log fire and exposed beams. The menu was good and it was quite hard to make a decision! The waitress who seated us was really friendly and welcoming, but a few of the other staff who brought drinks and cleared the tables were ok, but seemed to be a little sullen compared to her. There were a couple of other family groups dining.

We had the baked cheese with rosemary to start which was delicious. Then had the fish casserole and the chicken and leek pie: all delicious and did not disappoint. There was lots of meat in the pie (though I couldn't find much leek). The beer selection was ok, and I liked that they had beer and wine pairings for all of their specials. I will definitely return to try more on the menu.

I also visited here in the summer after a walk along the Thames. The outdoor space and benches are lovely on a warm summer evening, and the wisteria on the outside of the building adds to this very pretty country pub.

Good food, quaint place, good staff, management not so good. Nice walks around the village area and the river thames.

We originally booked a hotel through laterooms.com. If we hadn't it would have saved us £120. In future I will book directly with any hotel. Hotels are charged 15% by laterooms.com

Room Tip: I would not have marked average if "GOOD" had been available

Have visited this pub a lot over the years. Had the best oxtail stew I've ever had, so looked forward to this.
Unfortunately things are not the same. Very warm and helpful welcome but food falls way short.
Best dish we had was the mussels, well cooked plump and juicy in v good cider cream sauce. The linguine with tomato and basil tasted bought in. Think dolmio.
No fresh basil..the liver parfait was, well, poor. No pink, silky smooth texture you would expect, but grey/brown and texture like grainy mousse!?....finally the pop corn prawns..sounded interesting but just 4 over cooked pranwns with bits of popcorn on, on a bed of iceberg lettuce! £11 for a starter. Ludicrously over priced. Not sure how the chef worked the price out on that one.
Shame really. Would I come again? Yes for summer drinks but not for a food experiance. Lot better in the area. And cheaper

Really enjoyable food in a hugely attractive, traditional English pub, and reasonable prices, too. Service, however, was hopeless. Two new members of staff on that evening who were lovely and tried their best, but clearly had no support. Had to ask twice for orders to be taken for my table of six, then chase drinks that didn't arrive. Chap in charge didn't seem to care when I complained. Maybe I picked the wrong time of year, as the place certainly seemed to be very understaffed, but, despite the very good food, I certainly shan't be going back.

This was the second time we have eaten here in the last couple of months. Excellent food, good atmosphere early evening and service was unassuming.
Price was very reasonable considering the quality of the food.

We visited - two couples - three children.

Nice venue if you like old pubs. Parking a nightmare. Food was OK - not great. Service very pleasant. Wine and beer excellent quality.

I thought a little expensive for what it was and £11.00 for four prawns is excessive. £200.00 all in with little boose and children sharing starters and dessert.

It's OK and I would go back but prefer the Great House (I think) near the bridge.
