“a wonderful experience and a fantastic price!!”
Reviewed 22 August 2011

I felt so at ease at South Lodge that I didn't want to leave. Our twin room was one of the most well decorated, clean and comfortable rooms I have ever stayed in. We were overjoyed to discover that we had a beautiful decent sized ensuite bathroom and not the 'cupboard' sized ensuite of many other guest houses. Refreshments in the room were plentiful - we even had bottled water. Happy to discover wine glasses too so we didn't have to use our emergency plastic glasses.

The owners consistently go the extra mile - from chocolates on the pillow, a lovely pot of tea on arrival and friendly (but not obtrusive) conversation - I felt like they were friends after only 2 days. As a coeliac I often feel a bit left out at breakfast - well not at South Lodge Guest House. Steve and Tony had gone out of their way to ensure I didn't miss out at all - gluten free biscuits in the room, and my own coeliac friendly cereal and toast each morning.

I had never stayed on the south side of Bridlington before and was pleasantly suprised. The guest house has parking for 3 cars and there is ample on road parking so there was no stress involved in parking up and unloading the car. A 5 minute stroll sees you on the sea front, and a gentle 15min walk sees you in the middle of Bridlington. We had tickets for a show at the Spa which was also only a short walk away - perfect.

After 2 days we both felt refreshed, relaxed and sorry to leave such a lovely place and such lovely people. Will we be back? As soon as we can!!

I know that I have been to Bridlington previously but it was many years ago and the purpose of my visit is lost in the mists of time. On this occasion we decided to go because it is there. As I had no memories, fond or otherwise, of the place I approached the experience with an open mind. It is, I suppose, typical of many of the English seaside towns in the north of the country. What was certainly not typical was the accommodation. We spent two nights at the South Lodge bed and breakfast establishment on Cardigan Road.
I have varied recollections of seaside B&Bs and their owners but never have I encountered one such as this. The rooms were tastefully furnished and the one that we occupied had been recently decorated. The proprietors claim to have had 50 years’ customer service experience and it certainly shows. The service is impeccable. In addition, they have paid meticulous attention to every detail the hospitality tray boasting a selection of herbal teas in addition to the more customary varieties. In the bathroom my wife was presented with a choice of cotton wool buds, pads and balls. This is not, in my experience, customary. Each room was equipped with iron and board as well as the more usual hairdryer.
Breakfast was a delight. A wide selection of fresh fruit complimenting the traditional cereals and yoghurts. Porridge was available on request but the full English came with two eggs and a bacon chop delightful sausages beans mushrooms and tomatoes. My size is testimony to the fact that I do not have a small appetite but even I was compelled to forgo lunch having dealt with a feast of that nature.
We will return to Bridlington, not this time because it is there but because South Lodge is.

Steve and Tony made us really welcome at South Lodge. They have attended to every detail to make a stay at South Lodge comfortable and pleasant. Our ensuite twin room was very clean and beautifully furnished. All tastes were catered for at breakfast and we felt this Hotel was excellent value for money. There is plenty to do in Bridlington and it is close to other places like Scarborough, Filey, Hornsea and less than an hour from York. We certainly hope to make a return visit soon and I would recommend South Lodge to families or couples.

Christine and Sheilagh, thank you for your review of South Lodge. It was lovely to meet you both. As the previous owner, some 40 years ago, it was great to hear your nostalgic stories of the property and the way it used to be. We are glad you like the improvements that we have made so far. It will be great to meet other members of the family who can shed more light on the history of the house. Kindest Regards, Steve and Tony

An outstanding B&B, in a peaceful yet central location, with great attention to detail shown throughout. Friendly, professional hosts. Clean, modern rooms and breakfasts good enough to put Gordon Ramsay to shame! Steve and Tony have thought of everything, right down to the loan of the umbrellas!
