“Shop around THERES GOT TO BE BETTER”
Reviewed 29 August 2013

Booked this through Late Rooms as it was listed as a HOTEL , wrong its your run of the mill budget seaside B & B (totally different).
First thing first they DO NOT accept credit/debit cards CASH ONLY which is a bit of a nuisance (and not high lighted on late rooms)
The lady who met me was friendly and helpful but STUNK of cigarette smoke , which along with the musty ,stale smell within the house should have had alarm bells ringing , but it was late and the holiday season with few vacancies available so needs must.
I booked a double room at £58 for one night (believe me, it was at the very best worth £25) so here we go.
The Carpet was manky, nothing matched in the room at all Blue quilt covers, beige sheets and pink pillow covers ,not to mention a plastic mattress cover , some thing that I havnt come across in all my travels apart from in hospitals.
There was 1 sachet of tea/coffee , 3 sachets of sugar and 3 standard UHT milk pots, god help you if you wanted more than 1 cup of either tes or coffee , there was no packets of biscuits either with is the norm at this tariff.
The TV and the curtains were fashionable in the 1970s again no black out blinds so the light streamed in early morning and if I tell you that the bathroom was carpetted throughout you can imagine my horror.
There was no complimentry soap (apart from what was left behind from the previous occupant)or shampoo BUT we did have a nice line in plastic beakers.
Towels were hard and small and again probably about 10 years old.
There was a chair to sit on but the backside had fallen out of it and was of no use or comfort.

The shower was Ok nothing fancy warm water ,the breakfast acceptable but please do your homework if travelling to Bridlington ,theres got to be better BY FAR.
Yet another lesson to be learned , YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

I stayed at the Shearwater with a friend having cycled from Blackpool. Our room was clean and the shower was the best of our trip. The lady running the establishment was friendly and helpful. In the morning the breakfast was superb - the type of gut buster you no longer see in hotels. Guest houses like the Shearwater are a national institution and should be treasured. If I ever return to Bridlington I shall stay at the Shearwater.
