My husband and I stayed for one night at this hotel and having read some of the negative reviews of The Royal, we find it hard to believe we were staying in the same hotel.

The owners were pleasant and helpful, the hotel was spotlessly clean and the breakfast was excellent. We could not find a single negative about the place and would stay again without hesitation.

We would suggest you disregard the negative reviews on Tripadvisor and see for yourself. We think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

went with my mum and sister for one night on a groupon deal ,i dont think our faces fit from the minute we ring the bell ,we felt like they didnt know we were booked in ,think we were maybe to friendly an they didnt like that .bedrooms were very clean and the beds were nice ,plenty for breakfast .just seen mossgroves review about sense of humour thats what we said that fiona and tim didnt have one ,like i said think we were too friendly for them but yorkshire people are.

The package you purchased was a marketing drive consisting of a bottle of Champagne, Strawberries and flowers & a voucher for 20% off your next stay. It was aimed at couples for a Romantic night away rather than a mother and 2 daughters for a cheap stay. This would probably be why you had the opinion that your faces did not fit.

You arrived at our front door and rang the bell, when we opened the door you just stood there and laughed at us then asked to come in, hence the need to ask you your name as we had quite a number of guests arriving that day.

We are really not sure how anyone can judge someone on a two minute check in and decide whether or not they have a sense of humour. The other review you referred to was actually saying we do have a great sense of humour and this couple have actually just booked for their third stay all being around a week in length for Dinner, Bed & Breakfast and so know us much better than someone who has met us for just 2 minutes. By the way, if you had taken time to read the guest information folder provided within your rooms, then you would already have known we are both ‘Yorkshire’ people with professional management backgrounds.

Finally, as we said the package was a marketing drive and therefore didn’t even come close to covering the costs involved and was therefore magnificent value in our opinion.

We look forward to welcoming you back for a longer stay.

This was our second visit to the Royal Hotel and once again it was a resounding success. The owners had made a point of noting our requirements from the last visit and ensured that they were met this time without having to remind them. The standards of cleanliness, comfort, and quality of the food remained excellent and without exception the owners and staff were friendly and efficient and, again, made our stay one to remember.

Just had an extremely pleasant long weekend at the Royal. Very comfortable and clean room, exellent food and friendly staff. Dinner is served promptly at 6pm which suited us as we had evening functions starting at 7:30 pm. This was our second visit and we have booked again for next year. I cannot understand some of the earlier negative reviews: I found Tim and Fiona very pleasant and attentive - maybe some people have a problem with a sense of humour......

The hotel is located 2 minutes from the seafront promenade and ten minutes from the Spa Centre. Car Parking outside the hotel, or on-street nearby is not a problem.

Room Tip: If you particularly want a large room, pay a little extra and book a family room. Room 11 on the top floor has a sea view. There are also ground floor rooms if you have a problem with stairs.

two gripes advertised lounge not available to guests(door said private & locked)bar area only open if you had evening meal or if it was man again door locked!

The bar is always available for our guests regardless of whether you have dined with us or not, you just simply need to ask for a drink. It is pointless keeping all the lights on and the music playing if no one is in there.

The lounge at the front of the building is our one private area. The guest lounge area is situated at the rear of the property.
