“Major letdown”
Reviewed 5 February 2014

This is nothing like any of the other devere village hotels i've stayed in. The people were nice but the bedrooms are truly awful and are comparable to a travel lodge at best. This looks like its been an old hotel that devere have bought and spent very little on the conversion. Depressing rooms with Old fashioned well worn built in desk, wonky wall lights, dirty chair, cracked sink etc and 70's looking curtains. I'm gobsmacked at how bad it is.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to my worst enemy!
Where do I start?
Rude staff who thought it was great to speak and giggle behind your backs very professional, probably because they are all children themselves and don't know what they are speaking about yet will argue that black is white!
Very over priced! £4.90 a pint to sit in a grubby run down sports bar, id rather be sat in a working men's club! Wouldn't mind paying that price if you were sat in a upper class bar!
Rooms... Paid for a king room yet had a double bed on wheels that slid everytime you sat on it, one pillow each which was covered in what looked liked footprints. Dark dingy rooms that I doubt have seen dettol in years! Pubic hairs on the bathroom floor and no little toiletries (very disappointing for devere)
No sleep whatsoever due to noise from other rooms! After phoning reception to complaing nothing was still done about it!
When checking out we paid our tab only to be shouted back after paying to say that she hadn't added the bill up correctly and we owed another £25 yet again very unprofessional!
Anyone thinking of staying at this hotel avoid it at all costs. We will not be staying in a devere village again I would much rather pay the extra £20-£30 extra a night to stop in a devere hotel knowing we will get good quality, service and a good nights sleep!

Room Tip: Avoid hotel all together!

We reserved a room online in advance for an overnight stay on a Saturday night. Unfortunately it seemed that there were no standard rooms left, so we were quite happy to have to have what was advertised as a 'superior double'. We assumed this would mean we would have a lovely large room out of the way in peace!

Unfortunately none of this happened.

We arrived and the fairly pleasant receptionist checked us in and gave us the card to our room. When we entered our room we were very disappointed to see a somewhat averagely small room, with no extra facilities (one coffee each and not even any biscuits!). I went down to ask if we'd been given the wrong room, to be told 'oh no - the superior double is a family room, we can't upgrade you as we're fully booked.' The receptionist did tell us she'd refund us the difference for the room however. What really made me angry about this was if I hadn't have complained, we wouldn't have got any kind of refund. We felt as though we had been 'downgraded', perhaps giving a superior room to someone else even though WE had paid for it (adding to the confusion, the fact that there were supposedly no standard rooms when booking??) Did they just hope we didn't notice?

Even worse was our nights sleep. There was an 80s night in the bar. We had been put on the 1st floor, right above the bar. Music blasted until 12:30am. We were also placed right next to the main stairwell. Drunk people stomped up the stairs until 1:30am. I would also like to state that we were not made aware in advance that there would be an event on, or that the music would be so loud and on for so long.

The only saving graces were - Very nice breakfast - we did eventually get refunded the difference in price (£15).

Room Tip: Room 209 is at the front of the hotel; next to a stairwell; first floor; above the reception/bar. A...

We stopped in this hotel last March. The hotel staff were marvelous, but the rooms and facilities were dreadful. Broken curtain rails, cracked wash basin, decor very tired, Jacuzzi stunk, Overall very very poor. After complaining to the manager they upgraded us, but the upgrade was as bad, and the manager did say the hotel was in a desperate need for revamp.
Breakfast, only cornflakes and rice crispies in cereals was available. No muesli, porridge or any other cereal "run out of stock ".
We have written to head office 5 times, even to the MD and CEO, but todate no reply. We spoke with a customer service person, quote " we will get back to you", still waiting 6 months later.
We will not be stopping with this chain of hotels again.

Room Tip: Don't bother

Below par for a de Vere. Cold room and public areas, TV not working, bedside light not working, really uncomfortable bed, food distinctly average and generally lacking in atmosphere. This is the first de Vere property I've stayed in where I'd definitely not return.

5 course meal, wedding singer type entertainment, no worries about travelling home, breakfast made for you in the morning, use of the pool, Jacuzzi etc. Much better than a night out in town for couples. And the fact that entrance fees and taxi fares are no longer part of the cost means it isn't that expensive comparatively. One thing I would say is that they should take it back downstairs to the function room (as in previous years) rather than have it in the restaurant area (where you feel as if you are a little bit round the corner from everything) other than that, a great evening with all the usual down sides to N.Y.E not an issue
