Clean, cheap, and very basic. Walking distance to the Piccadilly Line Tube station (Hounslow Central), and less than 15 minutes by Tube to Heathrow - 40 minutes to central London. Rooms are spartan but very clean - ensuite toilet, shower, and sink; bed is a bit hard. But very limited counter space and electrical outlets, so if you plan to do any work, you'll find space to be quite tight. I carry a UK multiple outlet plug with me which is essential here if you have more than one thing (such as a laptop and a mobile phone) to plug in. I do not believe the hotel wi-fi reaches the rooms; I carry my own prepaid Vodafone broadband and use that. Bottom line - if all you need is a place to sleep and don't want to pay a lot of money, this is a good choice. No frills, but you're not paying for frills. Now, regarding service: 1) I arrived at 11:30am after an overnight, overseas flight but was told that I had to wait until 12:00 noon to check in, or I'd have to pay a 10 GBP fee - even though rooms were apparently available - because that's how their computer system works. That's silly. 2) On previous visits, I've had discussions with the manager regarding their atrocious policy of making a physical photocopy of guest ID's when paying cash for the room. With identity theft on the rise, allowing anyone to make a copy of a personal identification document is asking for trouble - and, yes, I've had problems with this in the past with copies made at hotel check-ins, so I prohibit copies of my IDs to be made. This trip, I elected to pay by card, and they still wanted to make a copy of my ID. After yet another discussion with the desk clerk, they agreed to forgo the copy requirement. No other hotel I've stayed at in London requests copies of my personal documents, so it is not a legal requirement, and other hotels seem to navigate fine without them. This hotel really needs to find a way to change this policy, because even though the hotel is otherwise a decent choice, this policy really turns me off - and I don't like having to discuss it with them each time I check in. Note that within walking distance of this hotel, there's a Days Hotel that is slightly more expensive (but not much so, if you book it through the brand website), and offers so much more for the money - and they never ask to copy my personal ID. I usually opt to stay at the Days Hotel and choose the ETAP only if the Days Hotel is sold out because of this stupid policy.
