“Broken portacots - avoid if travelling with a baby / toddler!”
Reviewed 19 June 2009

First the positives - the location is second to none if you are flying from Terminal 4. Also, the gym was great.

However, our stay was spoilt due to the Hilton's inability to provide us with a working portacot. We had rung (*twice*) to confirm availability of a portacot prior to arriving, however, there was not one in a room when we arrived @ 8.30pm. Two broken portacots were brought to our room before we were told there were no more. Our son is under 2 and never slept in a bed before so we didn't want this to be the first night he tried! We requested they contact other Hilton hotels in the area etc - eventually at around midnight we had a working portacot brought to our room that apparently had been in the hotel somewhere all along.

So if you are travelling with a little one, the great location does not make up for this sort of service!

Was travelling to the US and decided to spend the night before the flight at a hotel, leaving my car while away
Found a great deal for a night with 8 days parking at this hotel
Room was spacious and clean, although there was a long blonde hair on the sheet
There were no bath robes and none came even after three calls to housekeeping
Had a light dinner in one of the restaurants and have to say it was extremely expensive for very average food.
We flew from Terminal 1, which is a 5 minute walk to Terminal 4, then the shuttle. If you time it right it's very quick and convenient
All in all a nice hotel, but be prepared to pay a lot for anything

very comfy bed, feather pillows and duvet. bathroom roomy, shower hard to work out - would hate to do so if jet-lagged.

Had B+B option- plenty of choice at breakfast.

A fairly standard hotel of this type and cost but it is over the walkway to check-in. No shuttle buses, less hassle than staying at other hotels if you are leaving from terminal 4.

We booked the pre-paid bed+breakfast option through the Hilton website in order to make our early departure out of LHR out of T4. Check in was efficient and the porter brought the luggage to the room promptly. The room was standard business hotel... no character but all necessary amenities present and of expected quality. The room was blessedly quiet and the blackout curtains performed as expected.

Dinner was a wee bit overpriced (Burger = 16 GBP) compared to the London restaurants but was of decent quality, service and presentation. Breakfast was a nice buffet in one of the restaurants. We were in a hurry and the breakfast attendant offered to package coffee and such to go.

The walk from the lobby to the security area of T4 took about 6 minutes. We passed several "everything but the kitchen sink" type travelers along the way who were grumbling about how far it was. With that much luggage, the several minute walk must have felt a lot longer.

I have stayedin at this hotel a few times now when stopping over in the UK whist travelling on (or home) and always enjoy it. The architecture itself is a joy - no 'concrete block' hotel here. My one reservation this trip was that perhaps, as I usually fly with BA and they've moved from Terminal 5 from T4 that the transfer might prove complicated, but the Heathrow Hilton has been wise and added a FREE 'guests only' shuttle bus from the hotel to T5 every half-hour, so it was no problem at all! And now there are two choices of how to get into London from the hotel by train from T4 . If you were staying in London for more than 3 nights it might be better to get hotel in London itself, but being close to the airport on the day you fly in or out is the great attraction for staying at the Heathrow Hilton. Had another wonderful chinese meal at the onsite Zen Restaurant - always a great treat when I stay here!

On the flight home from London, a Hilton spokesperson was on the in-flight entertainment talking about the hotel chain's commitment to hospitality and customer service. Upon my return, I had to contact Hilton about a certain matter. The personalized and thoughtful responses made by both the corporate headquarters and hotel to my inquiry absolutely blew me away. It's astounding and incredibly refreshing to find a company that not only talks the talk of putting customers first, but walks the walk.

The level of care and customer service I received far exceeded my highest expectations and I can safely say that Hilton has won themselves a loyal customer. They managed to take something that could have been an extreme negative against them and completely turned it around. I would highly recommend this establishment, which is run by professionals at the top of their industry.

Just one word of caution, if you are arriving at Heathrow very late, make sure you either get dropped off at Terminal 4, which connects directly to the hotel, or Terminal 5, which has a hotel shuttle connection. If you go to the Central Bus Station or Terminals 1-3, you will be stuck for the night because the train connecting the various terminals stops running at some point and doesn't start again until ~5am. There is no way to walk to the other terminals and you will probably wind up sleeping at the airport.

More convenient locations and for much lower cost are located on the excellent tube line. The Heathrow Hilton did not meet expectations. The onsite restaurants are nice but extremely pricey. We had the buffet and one glass of wine each (included with the buffet) and the bill came to almost 100 pounds (approximately $150). The room was fine though not of expected quality.. The use of internet was charged at an additional 15 pounds from noon to noon. There is no airport sound and the room has black out curtains. Although I recommend the Hilton chain of hotels, especially Hampton Inn, I do not recommend Heathrow Hilton. The one in Paddington looks to be a superior property.
