“Not what it says on the tin!”
Reviewed 27 May 2010

The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful, but the good review stops there.
The rooms were furnished with very worn furniture. Couldn't hang any clothes up for fear of the wardrobes breaking! The head board wasn't attached to the bed and so banged against the wall at the slightest movement. We had to pull the bed away from the wall to stop this, which in turn resulted in a poor nights sleep because the pillows kept falling off the bed. Very noisy as the walls are paper thin, we could hear everything going on in the room next door to us. We chose this hotel because it said it was near to Twickenham and we were there for the 7's tournament which ran all weekend. Breakfast was a heart attack on a plate, all deep fried, so after one day we skipped it. Room service consisted of the hotel staff banging on the room door until we answered at 8am to ask if we wanted clean towels??!! The room wasn't cleaned the 3 nights we stayed, and I doubt it was before hand either if the dust on the bed was anything to go by. The hotel had a wedding booked in for the Saturday, which they failed to inform us of beforehand. The whole hotel smelled of curry for the duration of the weekend in preparation for the wedding. Not as close to Twickenham as the website suggests either, what should have been a 20 minute walk, turned into an hour, and taxis aren't cheap either. £12 for a supposed 2 mile trip, would only have cost about £4 up north! It was extremely hot the weekend we stayed, and there was obviously no air con, but we couldn't have the windows open for breeze due to the smell of food and the noisy construction going on right behind the hotel. In comparison to the price, I didn't expect a 5 star hotel, I did expect some grottiness, but not to this level. £65 per night is not cheap when you consider the state of the place. I've stayed in better b & b's in Blackpool for half the price, and thats saying something! This hotel should not advertise itself as a hotel, because it clearly is not. It'd be put to much better use as a halfway house, but then again it wouldn't meet the standard of room and building requirements for that!

This hotel is on the flight path for one of heathrow's runways. It hasn't been decorated for some years. The furniture is like what you would find in a grotty bedsit. This hotel is in definite need of a refurbishment. Wasn,t that cheap either. Should be rated 1 star.

This is a terrible hotel and terrible people to deal with that just dont seem to care about there customers. I got charged twice for one night and a month later (and emails and calls later) my money has not been refunded. Should have been free to stay there because it was so dirty and horrible. Also it is nowhere near the airport cost me 50pound in a taxi.

I stayed here for a week on a business trip to London. The rooms are decent and they serve a great breakfast. Economical and located very near to bus stops and tube stations. Ideal for people working at Feltham and nearby areas.

Booked this hotel last minute as visiting London for a few days and we were meeting some friends that lived in Hounslow - They suggested the Best Western Master Robert and I really wish we had taken their advice ! On arrival The Shalimar looks pretty inviting with nice frontage and a welcoming looking reception area but that all changes when you get to your room - where do I start, the bathroom floor tiles were cracked, the shower sealant was mouldy, the piping round the toilet and sink left a lot to be desired - it had been cut far too big then filled with expandable foam to fill the holes, the sink taps were loose and the button to open the plug was broken. Inside the bedroon there was a huge crack running from the top of the wall to the bottom and it looked like the whole building was about to collapse, the bedding was full of cigarette burns, there were stains on the curtains and some sort of liquid stain running down the wall, the fridge stunk and there was an internal door leading to next door which was slightly worrying as the room next door had access to our room as it was bolted from their side and we were particularly concerned about our belongings. I went straight to reception and complained - to be told that this was the best room the hotel had to offer ! Going down for breakfast the following morning at 8.40am - even though they served till 9 we were told it was to late for them to make us anything so we had to make do with juice and toast. That night I was awakened at 1.00am by people running down the corridors screaming and then the sound of a door being kicked through, at this point I was so worried I was removing my jewellery as I was convinced we were going to be robbed. After about half an hour it went quiet but we spent a sleepless night and left as fast as we could the following morning never to return to this hole. For £55 per night I certainly wasnt expecting The Hilton but this place was a disgrace - steer well clear.

Have just returned from a two day stop in London.
I looked online for a well priced hotel that was near tube station and heathrow.
Shalimar was exactly what i was looking for.
The hotel is very easy to get to,its a three minute walk from Hounslow Central Tube station,
Heathrow was only three stops on the tube and the picadillay line takes you straight to london.
On checking in we were 3 hours early but as a room was ready it was no problem. Room was a good size and clean, all amenities working fine.. No problems.
We had breakfast in the hotel, this again was of a good quality and quantity, no complaints again.
Should you wish to eat out there are many differnt restraunts within walking distance from the Shalimar.
Overall the staff were all very polite and listened to any requests/questions i had.
On my checkout day i had to leave very early, they arranged a wake up call, taxi and even went out of there way to make me breakfast.
I was very happy with my stay, and should i need a stop of in London, i will definatly be using the Shalimar again.
