Arrived back from Hong Kong at 5am so wanted somewhere to relax & freshen up before catching a flight later in the day to Edinburgh. Booked through www.airmiles.co.uk for one night which included breakfast. Great location at T5 for arrivals & departures. Check in was very quick & the room was perfect, all very new & contemporary. Went for breakfast to be told our name wasn't on the list & we'd have to pay. Went back to the desk where they immediately rectified the problem & explained that it was becaus the list is printed the night before & as we checked in early the following morning we were missed off. The buffet was excellent & set us up for the day. Would recommend this hotel either before or after a flight.

I booked my room through Lastminute.com's Secret Hotels scheme so didn't pay much for the room booking itself - however, I arrived on a flight from Australia early in the morning so needed an early check-in, for which I was charged £10 an hour, almost doubling the cost of my stay. Still, the room was luxurious, very quiet indeed (I was on the ground floor, the other side of the "Zen garden"), with a very comfortable bed (the mattresses are soft, with high pillows, but you can request different pillows if you wish) and overall I did enjoy my stay. As others have recommended, I bought some really nice food and wine from the M&S in Terminal 5 and picnicked in my room for both dinner and breakfast (there's a fridge in the room so you can store food, and there are basic tea & coffee-making facilities too). I spent the day in London and access was easy and cheap via a 6-zone Tube travelcard, though it took the best part of an hour on the Piccadilly Line into Central London. The staff were a bit impersonal but courteous. Overall I'd recommend this hotel, particularly if you don't need an early check-in (normal check-in time is 1400). Otherwise, be prepared to pay extra. I didn't try the spa facilities - I would have loved a swim after my long flight, but strangely this hotel doesn't have a swimming pool.

What a gem of a place to break a journey. Right next to Terminal 5 but so quiet. Fab room with big comfy bed and wonderful bathroom. Love the zen garden. Great choices at breakfast too. Worth paying that bit extra, but we were upgraded which is always a treat!

The Sofitel at Heathrow Terminal 5 was by far our best 5* airport-hotel.
Coming from a 14-hour-flight from Singapore and being annoyed by chaotic Heathrow airport (getting from T3 to T5 also took a while) we experienced a warm welcome and a great, personal service at the front desk.
We booked their junior suite and were surprised by the spacious and comfy room.
It also had the most effective soundproof windows - really no noise from the planes' entry lane.
Free use of WiFi, mini-bar and a nice breakfast-buffet was included.
Ordered plenty of food and desserts from room service and really enjoyed our stopover.

A very good location if you are travelling from T5. Not a hotel you'd choose to stay at for any other reason. It is an airport hotel through and through. Better than some, as you cannot hear the aircraft, but quite a walk from the premium check-in end of the terminal. Getting to/from your room with baggage involves long walks and several lifts/escalators Trolleys are not allowed past reception area.
Everything at the hotel is charged as extra from Internet to parking to leisure facilities. We found out to our cost that it is hotel policy not to store baggage without a confirmed return reservation and that even then, it is an extra charge. This, despite being told it was allowable and free by reservations.
The advertised prices are quite high but are in-line with its rating and location. One trick to reduce the price is to checkout the "Secret" hotels for Heathrow on various websites. It's easy to spot the Sofitel, as it is the only 5 star hotel at Heathrow.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel, one before our holiday and one the day we returned plus the parking deal. As we booked in March we got an early booking discount (because we asked!) but even better on our return trip we got a free upgrade to a luxury room. As a lowly leisure traveller, I don't get to stay in 5 star hotels very often and this was a treat as it was a trip of a lifetime for me. It was fabulous, the rooms are great, really quiet so you get loads of sleep, with the best beds ever and big bathrooms. The staff are brilliant, check in & out is quick, porters on hand to move your luggage etc.... Tea 5 serves great cake, the bars are good, Sphere is very atmospheric when it gets busy. We didn't eat in the main restaurant as we'd gone up to the airport and decided to eat there instead but it looked really nice. There was a Microsoft convention going on one night but this hotel is so big that you didn't feel that you'd been hijacked by coporate geekdom! The location is great too, if you are flying out of T5 you can't get a better place as you are directly linked to the airport. T5 works well now by the way, the teething problems seem to have been resolved, I have never been through an airport so quickly.

Summary: This hotel is literally attached to the Heathrow airport, so you can walk to the terminals at the airport. Which is great if you have an early/late flight or are conducting business near Heathrow. It is also attached to the Metro stop at Heathrow so you can catch a long (40 minutes) train ride into the center of London.

Pros: Clean, modern hotel, good location at Heathrow. The breakfast area is also large and serves a quite nice breakfast.

Cons: Far from central London (I would not recommend staying here if you plan to sightsee in London).

Overall, I would recommend this hotel to you if your travels or business require you to be close to Heathrow. If you plan to sightsee in London, stay at a more centrally located hotel (like the Hotel 41, which I've also reviewed and highly recommend).
