Note that we ate in the pub rather than the restaurant (it appeared to be shut when we went Sunday evening). Food was very good for pub food but chef maybe needs to work on flavour combinations. The mature cheddar on the burger totally overpowers everything else and my daughter didn't like the vegetable risotto - again one flavour tended to dominate. Otherwise all very good. Plenty of olives in the sharing starter and the artisan bread is very good. Local beers were good. Otter is great if you like hoppy beer.

Visited the Waterloo restaurant in the Wellington hotel after being recommended to it by the hotel we were staying in a good number of miles away. Booked a few hours in advance and were lucky enough to get a table. When we arrived there were only two other tables occupied and it stayed that way all evening, so it looked about a quarter full.
The service was very polite and attentive but the waiter looked like he was always rushing even though there weren't many customers.
The menu doesn't have a huge selection, about 4 each of starters, mains and desserts, but we both found items we liked as the variety was good.
Food took a long time to be served (starters and mains), but it really was very nice indeed once it arrived! Best meal we have had in the area this holiday.
Restaurant was perhaps a little bright and 'clinical' for my liking, and can understand why another reviewer described it as lacking character, but that does not detract from the great food and good service.

Having experienced some pretty ordinary meals, it was an absolute delight to taste the creations of the excellent chef at the hotel. We were sorry we were only there for two nights, would have like to try more of the dishes on the menu....the risotto was unbelievable.

This is located in the Wellington Hotel, upstairs and is in a very pretty newly redecorated room. We arrived at 19:00 and had drinks on the sofas before going to our table, the waiter was okay, he stomped around, in and out of the room, he didn't ask if we wanted another drink the entire time or fill up our drinks for us. The food was great, really interesting and beautiful presentation but the atmosphere was non existent! The waiter didn't create a comfortable, relaxed ambiance, it felt awkward and uncomfortable and even after we left I couldn't work out why I was annoyed! The food is a reasonable price but they really need to work on creating a more enjoyable experience and maybe they would tract more patrons.

We have stopped here in previous years and as we passing through again today, thought we would check it was still as good. It was. There was plenty of choice for my vegetarian friend. We both chose salads and very fresh they were too. The pints were well kept and the staff friendly. Well worth stopping if you are passing.
