We had lunch here while visiting and hiking in Boscastle..it was very good and the staff very friendly. Its old but historical and romantic location. We needed directions and they found us a map. Lovely to have a glass of sherry to warm up after a windy and wet hike.

We have followed chef Kit Davies from the Castle in Bude to his new base as the chef for the Wellington Hotel's restaurant.

The food at the Castle was consistently excellent - outstanding ingredients cooked perfectly and not messed about with. He has stepped things up a notch at the Wellington - presentation and execution is more elaborate but not at the cost of flavour or enjoyment of the dish. It really is exceptional food and very fairly priced at £30 for two courses and £37 for three. We visited on a Wednesday night during half term with our two daughters (aged 8 and 9). Three of us had the full menu while we were also offered the excellent children's menu for our youngest.

Sadly the dining room was fairly quiet but we hope word will soon get round about this very talented chef - don't just visit Boscastle for the tourist shops - book yourself in for dinner at The Wellington Hotel - you will not be disappointed!

This hotel is currently going through some alterations. It is a lovely place in one of the most stunning locations in Cornwall. There are two moans though:

1) The lighting in the bar and gallery is just too bright - the migraine inducing light bulbs destoy any chance of enjoying a Cornish pub-like atmosphere - turn down the lights or get some lower powered ones!

2) The beer garden is such a lovely suprise and could be a real gem. However, the 'Snug' area out to it is scruffy and unkempt and this must surely put visitors off.

Thanks for your review which is much appreciated. On the two points raised, your comments are very valid. For the lights in the Bar, we had been trying out some new LED bulbs as part of our goal to be as environmentally friendly a hotel as possible. These were too bright and we have reverted to our original ones until we can find a softer LED solution. As for the area between the "Snug" and the garden, the decorators finished today. Hopefully, you will be able to return soon and see these improvements for yourself!

My wife and I recently stayed two nights and loved it. The property is so pretty and the staff is great. They have a great outside garden for drinking a beer or two. And the coastal scenery right down the street is just beautiful....not to mention the geology. Off the beaten path which is just what we wanted.

This is a review solely of the restaurant. Having dined a The Wellington many times before it never disappoints. The service is always impeccable, friendly and not overly formal and the setting comfortable with good views out to the harbor and hills. The meal is good value for money and includes an amuse bouche and pre-desert so be prepared to be very full! As vegetarians we are well catered for: We had an asparagus starter, and as a main fried polenta, goats cheese and spring vegetables, of which I particularly appreciated the ransom (wild garlic) oil element which was subtly done. All this was washed down with a very fresh tasting bottle of prosecco that I can recommend.

We managed desert, both of which were surprisingly good (orange cheesecake and a rhubarb tart). Coffee is freshly ground and comes with delicious petit fours (the freshly made chewy honey comb was particularly good). All in all some of the best dinning available in this area.
