We had a wonderful two day stay at this delightful hotel while touring around England.
The staff were friendly, courteous and vert helpful....great sense of humour too.
It was nice to escape the crowds for a couple of days and relax in a delightful environment. And to top off our experience the dinner was prepared by a great chef. An all round fantastic experience to bring back to Australia.

A group of three of us bought drinks in the bar area downstairs at about midday.
The three staff on duty made it out to be a huge effort to serve us, when we were asked for our ID, which we were happy to show (all of us 20 years or older), the older woman laughed at my brother's military card that he took out of his pocket for her.
To add to the unprofessional behaviour, one of the waiters was sat slumped over a bowl of cling film covered pasta, the other youngster stood with a defensive attitude also behind the bar.
Needless to say we sat comfortably in the beer garden.
Unsurprisingly, the place was dead, unusual for a renowned hotel, featured on a TV documentary you may say.
We won't be going back.

JSWellington, Owner at The Wellington Hotel, responded to this reviewResponded 4 August 2014

Tripadvisor reviews are a valued source of feedback for us at The Wellington and I use their content both to congratulate our staff on a job well done or to look at how we can improve. As our previous reviews show, our efficient and friendly service is of vital importance to us. I was therefore dismayed to read this review and have immediately looked into what happened here. The facts are a little different and I hope that any reader will take this into account.

The Wellington is not a young person's drinking bar but a family friendly pub that serves great food. We do not encourage under age drinking and we do not serve alcopops! When a group (and there were more than three on this occasion) of very young looking teenagers comes into the bar, we will therefore challenge them about their age and ask for ID. In the event that this is not provided to our satisfaction, we will not serve them alcohol. Sometimes this can lead to resentment and dis-satisfaction with the person serving them.

I have spoken to other people who were present at the time and stand by our staff for doing their job correctly. Please therefore read this review in the context of this response and together with our previous reviews.

Just had the most wonderful stay at the Wellington, faultless. From the moment we were welcomed, through to the breakfast staff and housekeepers, everyone at the hotel were warm and friendly. The breakfasts were delicious, our room exceptionally clean and comfortable and a genuine sense of calm and relaxation. The location of course is stunning and the local shop owners were equally as welcoming.Looking forward to returning soon

We had 4 nights at The Wellington, the first 2 were in the outstanding Room 21.

Great stay, slept well and the room was immaculately turned out and well worth the £125 a night we paid for it.

The last 2 nights we were moved into Room 4, which apparently has recently been done up. This room is not a patch on Room 21, although a nice room it is not (in our opinion) worth paying £125 a night for. The bathroom was smaller than that in 21, and the room itself, whilst still a double, just seemed small by comparison.

Breakfast is of a high standard, Boscastle is a lovely place and this hotel is very pleasant to stay at.

Room Tip: The best rooms appear to be the ones facing the back of the hotel, we found there was more noise (bi...

We were made very welcome by the staff and shown around the hotel. Stayed in the turret room which was very large and well furnished with a nice bathroom .Very convenient to stroll in to Boscastle .We used the side entrance which saved some stairs and having to go through reception.Breakfast was very nice but on the small side for my husband .If you would like a quiet restful location this is the hotel for you

Room Tip: Turret rooms are very large and light with lovely bathrooms

I have stayed at this hotel many times and wholeheartedly recommend. Great hotel with superb food whether eating in the restaurant or the bar. Staff are always excellent and welcome you back like an old friend .....nothing is too much trouble. For that special treat stay in either the Guy Gibson or Thomas Hardy turret rooms.

We stayed here on weekend and it was nice. The room, although classed as a small, was very good sized and clean with a clean on-suit. There is a pub and restaurant downstairs that are very nice (we sat and had a drink down there later in the evening) and you can’t hear it in the room. Breakfast was in the restaurant which was clean and very nice. The make their own blood orange marmalade that can be very easily mistaken for tomato ketchup! Which cause amusement between us and the couple next to us! Tad on the expensive side but we did not book walked in at 16:00 on a bank holiday weekend so we may have paid a bit over the odds. The staff overall were nice but when taking my card details one of them wrote down everything including long card number, expiry date and the 3 digit security code on the back so I asked him to burn it and let me just pay on their card machine (I get why he was doing it but he could have had a shopping spree online with the details he took!) and the lady that booked us in was miserable, you could tell she really didn’t want to be there. She was very accommodating like moving her car so we could park there and not have to pay for parking round the corner. Was good though. Would return!
